I believe so. I believe they are kind acts done in a respectful way. When Bobby is struggling with his math homework and we see Elijah helping, we need to make sure we make a comment telling Elijah we noticed and how kind he was being. This entry was posted in Preschool. July 16, 2014. We also need to simply talk...

Best Practices in the Field of Early Education and Care. About 4C for Children. Mornings are such a challenging part of the day. I have to get myself ready, make breakfast, pack my lunch and get Sara ready before I can leave. I forgot to buy diapers last night! Traffic is slow. I hope I can make it to the program on time. I hope Sara’s primary caregiver is there. It will help me to be able to leave quickly. I need to remember to tell her that we were running late and that Sara will need a...Please, pleas...

Best Practices in the Field of Early Education and Care. About 4C for Children. Use your voice for children! This is a guest post from Paige Runion, Leadership Coach at 4C for Children. My most recent lesson was in advocacy, through immersion. In the past, I have written a letter or two to express an opinion to a legislator. In 2006, I even sent an invitation to Steve Chabot to visit the Step Up To Quality star-rated child care center I administered (I was so surprised when he actually came.). Well, Sall...

About 4C for Children. Blink And They're Grown. Parents, Families and Child Care. March 31, 2015. We moved this past summer, and while our new house is only one mile from our old house, that one seemingly insignificant mile was all it took to cause a major shift in my daughter’s world. Our new house was in a different school zone, which meant she would have to enter fourth grade as the new kid. Original photograph courtesy of Jeremy Heibert. Now that school is past the 100. Day mark I’m relieved to say m...

About 4C for Children. Put a Bib on It. Author Archives: Tara Noland. October 27, 2015. One of the (many) great things about working at an organization focused on early childhood education when you’re a young parent is that you’re literally surrounded by child development experts. I have the chance to ask questions around the lunch table about my daughter’s development and get input from other parents who also happen to have master’s degrees in this exact field. It’s a pretty lucky place to be. Whoa We t...

About 4C for Children. Blink And They're Grown. Parents, Families and Child Care. March 31, 2016. Recently I was tested by my children on whether or not I was considered a fun mom. We noticed the back yard was covered in mud puddles and all they wanted to do was to get out there and go crazy! It was a bit chilly outside and sprinkling rain but all I could say was, Why don’t you just read a book and stay inside? You’re going to get sick! What clothes are you going to wear? You’re going to ruin your shoes!

Don’t get me wrong, those days were also magical. And now that my children are older, I actually miss toddler pouts and rocking a baby to sleep at 3 am So, whenever I see a snuggly baby or a giggly toddler and I feel an ache of loss for those exhausting-yet-delightful days, I remind myself of the things I do not miss. Washing bottles and sippy cups.

But what can I do to nurture children’s well-being, to help them be happy, confident and resilient? First, I make sure their environment supports what is best for children. This means providing a safe and healthy environment that reinforces for children that they are secure, taken care of and valued. In my experience this is acco...In ad...
