WEEK’S TOP RELEASES. The Bad Marriage (Wild Child, PHOX, Snowmine, Sun Nectar). TOP 15 EPS/7″ OF 2011. December 23, 2011. 4 Comments on TOP 15 EPS/7″ OF 2011. While there were an insane number of great albums released this year, much of the excitement and buzz of new music and artists came instead from EPs. Often released as a precursor to an LP, the extended play (or EP) prepares fans for. And followup releases from Surfer Blood. 2011 has truly been an incredible year for the EP. The EP presents a more ...

Subscribe to the Lefsetz Letter. This is just the beginning. Who wouldn’t love a rock band fronted by an overweight black woman? It rings true in an era of overhyped, overmassaged, oversurgeried TV music stars who are no different from the citizens in Wall-E, fat on the past and unwilling to take a risk in the future. But that doesn’t mean they’re good, that doesn’t mean the Alabama Shakes are gonna last. Give the mainstream credit, they know it’s about the tunes. Memphis In The Meantime. Used to be all ...

Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Girl Talk Dance Video - "Girl Walk". Creative collective Wild Combination. Has captured the danceability of Girl Talk. S music, and made it into a video! The 12-part music video features dancers grooving their way around New York City to the soundtrack of Girl Talk's latest album, All Day. And let me tell you, it is infectious. the clear spot: alabama shakes
http://theclearspot.blogspot.com/2012/02/alabama-shakes.html
Friday, February 3, 2012. On Tuesday night Chelsea and I found our way down to the Croc to catch Alabama Shakes. Being the thoughtful friend that Chelsea is, she had given me a pair of tickets for Christmas which, if you know me at all, is always a perfect gift. I'll gladly take concert tickets any day. Seeing their live set was a nice preview of their yet-to-be-released LP. And while I enjoyed the show to the very end, "Hold On" remains my favorite tune of the night. So check them out, their EP ...The b...

sensibly ridiculous: Favorite Five Albums of 2011
http://sensiblyridiculous.blogspot.com/2012/01/favorite-five-albums-of-2011.html
Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Favorite Five Albums of 2011. This past year was one in which, I have to admit, I kept up with new music less than is normal for me - and certainly far less than I wanted to. It was only a few years ago that I'd scour the interwebs every Monday night in search of some possible gems about to drop on the following Tuesday. Work and occasional other interests. Took up more of my time this year. However I was still able to find five albums that I couldn't put down. With a follow u...

The Musically Inclined: The Musically Inclined's Top 10 Finds of 2011
http://themusicallyinclined.blogspot.com/2011/12/musically-inclineds-top-10-finds-of.html
Wednesday, December 21, 2011. The Musically Inclined's Top 10 Finds of 2011. Every year when December rolls around, The Musically Inclined knows two things: it's time to run and duck from the rancid strains of Jose Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad," and it's time to step back and talk about what was great this year. We'll get to that in a second. First it should be noted that 2011 was the year that saw some crazy changes in the social habits of music-listening, like Turntable.fm. That said, back to the project...
