http://myrwandanjourney.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
My journey to Africa to learn how to restore the rhythm of life. Wednesday, December 28, 2011. There's a First Time for Everything. The past few days have included a lot of “firsts” for me. 1 First Christmas in Rwanda. 2 First time carrying a load of materials on my head. 3 First time being a part of a family of 16 girls. 4 First time being stared at by an angry chicken. 5 First time hitchhiking. 8221; “Make me happy.” “Give me money! One of the things that surprised and impressed me most was how quickly...

Perspectives: September 2014

Sunday, September 28, 2014. Packing up and getting ready for Rwanda, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was off to volunteer, working with orphan children at Agahozo-Shalom. Agahozo-Shalom is home to five hundred and twelve of Rwanda’s most vulnerable children. The older students are children of the Genocide. The ferocious violence of their past replaced with new families and unbounded love. It isn’t possible to convey all my experiences at Agahozo-Shalom, but in the short week I spent there, the chil...

Adventures of a redhead. Newer posts →. Bonaire or Rachel learns to scuba dive! January 12, 2011. We arrived in Bonaire two days ago, touching down on the small Caribbean island at half past six on a Sunday morning. 40 miles to the north is Venezuela. To our west 1 mile is the uninhabited little island of Klein Bonaire and 50 or so miles beyond that Curacao. From our first hours here, Ori and I were impressed with the level of convenience and simplicity. Just next to the condos is the dive shop, the ...

Painting Hope: Israel and Rwanda

Painting Hope: Israel and Rwanda. Join Tanya on her journey creating art with Israeli and Rwandan youth. In the village we speak a lot about tikkun olam. Fixing the world, and tikkun halev. To me, they are unavoidably intertwined. When I came to. To do something good for the world, I got something for myself too. One particular incident in April reminds me of the lessons I learned at the village. I was very preoccupied with planning and executing the large mural before our big inauguration ceremony.
