    - This site offers basic information and links for people travelling into and out of Bangladesh. With info on hotels, flights, passports and visas, trekking, hiking and things to see and do. Bangladesh is officially known as The People's Republic of Bangladesh (Gana Prajatantri Bangladesh) and is situated between Burma and India in South Asia. Set in the river delta of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna Bangladesh is densely populated, yet very diverse - with lush rainforests, rice paddy fields, rugged mountains, wetlands and mangrove forests inhabited by endangered bengal tigers. The capital city of Bangladesh is Dhaka. Nestling on the banks of the river Buriganga, Dhaka is the largest city in Bangladesh and is both the cultural and industrial centre of the nation. it is home to many prominent buildings such as the Vasani Navo Theatre (pictured top right), Lalbagh Fort and the pink palace of Ahsan Manzil. Bangladesh is serviced by two international airports - Zia International at Dhaka and Amanat Shah International Airport at Chittagong. There are also more than ten local airports providing internal flights to popular tourists destinations. The six administrative districts of Bangladesh are: Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barisal and Sylhet and these are sub-divided into sixty four distinct districts. The national language of Bangladesh is Bangla and the principal religion is Muslim. Bangladesh has lots to offer the intrepid explorer with breathtaking countryside, mountains and many ancient archaeological sites such as the Somapura Mahavihara at Paharpur. Here you will find the spectacular remains of an ancient buddhist monastery, built during the late 8th century it is a designated World Heritage Site. The imposing quadrangle structure consists of 177 monastic cells plus courtyards, shrines and terraces. In recent years Bangladesh has become a popular destination for eco-tourists wishing to experience the unique wetlands and national parks. Sundarbans National Park is home to the world's largest Mangrove forest. Bangladesh also lays claim to the world's longest beach at Cox's Bazar - this is 120km long and serviced by it's own small airport. The beach boasts some spectacular sunrises and sunsets and is a popular destination for lovers. The mountainous Chittagong Hill Tracts are an ideal location for more adventurous visitors who may wish to go trekking in Bangladesh. Many tour operators offer organised trips exploring this expansive Asian mountain range. Home to several different groups of Mongolian hill tribe, this area is dotted with lakes and picturesque waterfalls and teaming with exotic sub-tropical wildlife including monkeys, tigers and wild boar.
