The European electricity-, heat- and gas producers are being faced with new EU-regulation (derived from Kyoto Treaty) as defined in the Renewable Energy Directive. With this directive, the member states aim to increase the share of renewable energy in the total energy consumption to 20% in 2020, with the help of binding targets for each member state. The majority of the currently available biomass is coming from a non-consolidated market, with the result that the origin of the biomass is not always clear.
