I'm a mao, and I'm wan pi. I’m not racist, but…. In You must be kidding. I never saw this until a few weeks ago. I'm sure I would have punched somebody in the mouth. Are you kidding me with this nonsense? I’m not racist, but…. Have I really chosen the people to spend my time with that wisely? Or are they just smart enough to hold their tongues around me? Because being my friend doesn’t excuse anyone from a tongue-lashing. How is it even possible to think any of that is okay? Dance Monkey, Dance! Oscar-wi...

I'm a mao, and I'm wan pi. Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o speech at Black Beauty Essence magazine. I think I fell in love. I don’t watch a lot of mass media anymore: movies, TV, etc. So this video, seen today, is the first I’ve seen/heard from Lupita Nyong’o (although the buzz has been chattering since the Oscars). Not only do I find her absolutely gorgeous in an aesthetic sense, but this speech brought a tear to my eye. Her compassion touched me. The words of her mother were felt deep. In Think About It.

Diving Headfirst: October 2012

Seizing every opportunity to explore, learn, and love. Saturday, October 13, 2012. Transitions. They can be exciting. They can be adventurous. And yet, they can be really challenging. For all their hype, the thesis of this post (can you tell I'm back to student mode): transitions suck. Looking back, each major transition I have made has been accompanied by a period of grieving, second-guessing, and loneliness. I shouldn't be surprised. It is a natural part of the transition process. I'm reviving the blog...

Diving Headfirst: Johannesburg Update
http://lifeontheothersideotheworld.blogspot.com/2015/02/johannesburg-update.html
Seizing every opportunity to explore, learn, and love. Monday, February 2, 2015. When I first arrive at a field site and tell people I’ll be there for about two months, it always sounds like such a long time. But somehow I blink- and I’ve already been in South Africa nearly a month! And the students have made me feel very welcome as well. Johnannesburg is quite an easy place to live (albeit a bit gated-suburbia and far too racially segregated for my taste). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
