The highest point in Finland lies near the summit of Halti (Haltitunturi in Finnish; Háldi in Sami), on the Norwegian border in the far north-west of Finland. At a height of 1324m, it is a spur of the mountain whose main summit lies within Norway. The dog, incidentally, is a seven-year old Labrador and also a regular visitor to KAIRA. Tuesday, 2 September 2014. Last week we made a service visit to KAIRA. There were four LBA aerials still down from the blizzard of 2014 and these needed fixing. However, on arrival at the site, we noted that there were some other LBA aerials down. We hadn't noticed this in the data, so it must have been recent. And inspection of the field indicated that the nylon lines had been cut on multiple LBA aerials, which is what had caused them to fall. A cut LBA line. (Photo: D. McKay-Bukowski).

KAIRA observes continuously, 24-hours a day and all-year-round. The default observation mode is handled by KBT (KAIRA Background Task), unless a special experiment or campaign is scheduled. Applying for time or data. With a few restrictions, it is possible to apply for time on the KAIRA facility or request KAIRA data from other programmes. In addition to operating as a passive receiver system, KAIRA is also capable of receiving signals from nearby scientific radars. This page describes the relevant parameters. PLEASE NOTE that KAIRA is an independent facility. Having allocated time on KAIRA does not imply the reciprocal allocation on any of these other facilities. Because the KAIRA system is often used in conjunction with the EISCAT VHF radar at Ramfjordmoen, near Tromsø, the following information may also be useful. Required KAIRA RCU mode.
