NATIONAL REFERRAL OF SUSPECTED CASES OF CJD. Local clinicians are asked to report all new cases and suspected cases of CJD and other prion diseases to the NCJDRSU in Edinburgh and the National Prion Clinic (NPC) in London, with a copy to the local health protection team. The National CJD Research and Surveillance Unit (NCJDRSU, formerly NCJDSU) has two principal, inter-related functions: CJD surveillance in the UK and research into prion disease and related problems.
