Tuesday, July 11, 2006. I Wouldn't Want Chemoreceptors in My Arms. Octopus are extremely intelligent cephalopods that are known for their problem-solving abilities. They have eight suction-cupped arms(not tentacles) that have chemoreceptors in them- that means that they can taste whatever they're touching! There are a few accepted theories as to why Zebras don their characteristic black and white stripes. One of the more recent ideas is that the contrasting stripes serve to confuse the blood-sucking tsetse fly. Whatever the reason, Zebras' unique and bold stripes are sure visually stunning!
