Photo Tourism
Photo tourism is a system for browsing large collections of photographs in 3D. Our approach takes as input large collections of images from either personal photo collections or Internet photo sharing sites (a). And automatically computes each photo's viewpoint and a sparse 3D model of the scene (b). Our photo explorer interface enables the viewer to interactively move about the 3D space by seamlessly transitioning between photographs, based on user control (c). Welcome to the UW. The scientific data management landscape is changing. Improvements in instrumentation and simulation software are giving scientists access to data at an unprecedented scale. This data is increasingly being stored in data centers running thousands of commodity servers. This new environment creates significant data management challenges. In addition to efficient query processing, the magnitude of data and queries call for new query management techniques such as runtime qu...

MobileASL University of Washington
MobileASL is a video compression project at the University of Washington and Cornell University with the goal of making wireless cell phone communication through sign language a reality in the U.S. Below is a movie explaining the research and showing the phones in action! Nearly doubling compression ratios of MPEG-2). The result will be a video compression metric that takes into account empirically validated visual and perceptual processes that occur during conversations in ASL.
