Wednesday, 30 November 2011. In print at last. Now available: A Very Long Walk is the published version of these articles and blogs, written while undertaking a 2,300-mile, 9-month long walk from my home in central London to Santiago de Compostella in Spain. Very Long Walks: The end
http://verylongwalks.blogspot.com/2008/10/end.html
Sunday, 5 October 2008. There should be moments of great emotion; revelations about life, ourselves or both. Our way of behaving in the world should, Damascus-like, be transformed. Yet thoughts and emotions rarely occur at the scheduled moments, but at the right ones. We had all the superficial milestones: the "last hundred kilometres" post; "only three more days to go"; the "last time I need to wash out this t-s. Even so it was impossible to know what to think or feel. Numb. Complete. Astoun...But grati...

Back home, we act as consultants in the arts. And in large business transformation.

Very Long Walks: October 2008
http://verylongwalks.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 14 October 2008. This scene is the reason we came to Barcelona: for late sun and warmth and a chance to test how small a pocket of the year my white fingers can be squeezed into. Ought we really to spend the winter wandering the tapas bars where some Flamenco musician is playing the guitar – while stocks and shares burn all around? Maybe we could, maybe we should. But in the first shocked days here, before we remembered the beach, we had already decided it was time to head for home. Links to thi...

Very Long Walks: July 2008
http://verylongwalks.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 31 July 2008. Messing about in boats. Our paddles snagged in clinging brambles and we forced ourselves free of the bank. I wondered if this had been a mistake: just as I'd come to terms with the mountains of the Auvergne, I found myself a whole new comfort zone to fall outside. The cloudy water with its orange tints of iron hid the small rocks on. The river didn't stay calm for long, of course. Every silent interlude pierced only by the mewling of the buzzards was followed by the rising cha...

Traveling SugarPetal: Hola de Carrion De Los Condes
http://sugarpetal.blogspot.com/2007/09/hola-de-carrion-de-los-condes.html
Sunday, September 9, 2007. Hola de Carrion De Los Condes. I am having a cafe con leche and writing on the computer in a cafe. After exploring the town and looking for Lety twice she found me at my Albergue. She was in a private one that was more hippy than anything. I sat and enjoyed the sun with her at her Albergue. At 8pm I went back to mine. I sat with Toiya and practiced Spanish until bedtime. Cheryl and Greg Morton. A break sounds good. Keep up the good work. September 10, 2007 at 11:08 AM.

A pilgrimage along the Camino de Santiago the Way of St. James. About Me and the Camino. An Inspirational Story →. May 5, 2015. Foot care on the Camino. 1) Get good hiking boots or shoes! 2) Take time to break in your shoes/boots prior to going to Spain. You will be guaranteed to get blisters. 3) Apply petroleum jelly to your feet daily. It helps your socks slip a bit over your skin while you’re hiking rather than binding and chafing. Many thanks to Anita from the American Pilgrims on the Camino (APO...

Very Long Walks: November 2007
http://verylongwalks.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, 29 November 2007. Till I was eighteen I lived in just two houses – whose gardens were close enough to call across – in a south Derbyshire village where schools, churches, Scouts and Guides wove the 1960s blossoming of families into a community. As we prepare to say goodbye to our neighbours and friends here, I wonder if our plans to return really will happen. Will this community still be ours or will we once again be passing strangers, part of those masses who lubricate London? What we hadnR...

Travel Tales From Around the World: Embracing Simplicity - 38 Days on the Camino de Santiago
http://teresaokane.blogspot.com/2012/06/embracing-simplicity-38-days-on-camino.html
Travel Tales From Around the World. Friday, June 15, 2012. Embracing Simplicity - 38 Days on the Camino de Santiago. The Way of St. James is one of the great pilgrimages of the world. The entire Route of Santiago de Compostela is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and that, alone, inspires many to explore it on foot. We would have loved to stay at the Gran Hotel La Perla. As we stood in La Perla’s lobby soaking in the ambiance, a hotel employee, noting our hiking apparel, asked, “Are yo...8221; He ...
