Unicode is hard – harder than I assumed – twm's blog
http://blog.dummzeuch.de/2015/07/11/unicode-is-hard-harder-than-i-assumed
From someone who traveled abroad to learn appreciating his own country. Unicode is hard – harder than I assumed. In my last post I announced that the GExperts code formatter is now Unicode aware. Little did I know. Mohamed Kamel sent me a source file with Arabic strings which still got converted to question marks. So today I have dived into the source code again. I nailed the problem with Arabic strings (and added a new unit test). But I am pretty sure I missed some more. Windows 8.1 (8). Force “un...

Using the %TEMP% directory – twm's blog
http://blog.dummzeuch.de/2015/08/16/using-the-temp-directory
From someone who traveled abroad to learn appreciating his own country. Using the %TEMP% directory. Sometimes you need to temporarily create a file or even a directory to put some files into. Windows (and most other operating systems, even MS DOS) reserves a special directory for this purpose and helpfully provides API methods for getting this directory (or you could just use the %TEMP% environment variable but while that is convenient for batch files, it is less convenient in a program). This function u...

Coding with the enemy: Delphi for iOS!
http://sourceitsoftware.blogspot.com/2011/08/delphi-for-ios.html
Coding with the enemy. Mostly delphi and database programming with the occasional rant. Thursday, August 4, 2011. I attended the Rad Studio World Tour today in Auckland. Delphi XE2 has some nice features (x64, OSX. But the standout for me was the iOS. Developing for the iPhone et. Is mostly a pain in the proverbial. XCode. Is somewhat of a mess and Objective C was designed by someone with an unholy fetish for square brackets. The last time I did iPhone dev. You create a xcode. It's not all perfect, xcode.
