The Gardners Must Be Crazy: Music 101
http://gardneradoptionjournal.blogspot.com/2013/03/music-101.html
The Gardners Must Be Crazy. Part of what's frustrating is I think she can actually recognize the songs faster than I can. My ego can handle not knowing the new stuff, but when she flicks past the light rock station and I say "Wait, Go back! And her response is, "I don't want to listen to Jessie's Girl," well then, let's just say the Name That Tune gloves come off pretty quickly. So the other day I'm in the car driving Yo to a soccer game and she pauses on an 80's station. We used to blog here, too!

Monday, June 29, 2015. In Praise of 45. Reflections on the music of the 1970s. When I was your age, you didn't download a song off the internet. You didn't even listen to it streaming on. The internet. You didn't even order it from a store on the internet. You bought it at the mall, and you took it home, and you took it out of a paper sleeve, and you put it on a record player. And a needle read that song off a disc spinning at 45 revolutions per minute. The Ballad of John and Yoko. I'll expand my musical...

Loud Time: Spoiler Alert: Publishing and The Artist
http://loud-time.blogspot.com/2012/02/spoiler-alert-publishing-and-artist.html
Sunday, February 26, 2012. Spoiler Alert: Publishing and The Artist. I saw The Artist. This weekend, just in time for the Oscars. It really is a great movie; it's remarkable how much the actors are able to communicate nonverbally, and how secondary a role dialogue can actually play. But mostly what I took from The Artist. Is a question: What does this have to do with me? I had the same reaction to Moneyball. Is met by its customers' cold response: "Frankly, I don't give a damn.". We Could Be Heroes, Part...

Monday, January 19, 2015. What Kind of Extremists? Living Letters from Birmingham Jail. I was honored to take part in this reading of Martin Luther King's letter from Birmingham Jail, written in response to public criticisms of the nonviolent direct action of the Civil Rights Movement. I wrote about my experience participating in this reading last month; you can read my reflections here. For taking on this project, and to Micky ScottBey Jones for her leadership in bringing this special project together.
