Faden's Map of Norfolk | About the cartographer William Faden

http://fadensmapofnorfolk.co.uk/williamfaden.asp

Faden’s Map of Norfolk. The 1797 Norfolk map was surveyed by Thomas Donald and Thomas Milne, both very experienced in their field. William Faden was the publisher and his name is the one usually associated with the Norfolk map. In the case of the 1783 Suffolk map, although Faden was the publisher, it is always named after Joseph Hodskinson, the surveyor. William Faden. Enlarge ». 2005 - 2016 Andrew Macnair. Faden's Map of Norfolk | Digitally redrawn

http://fadensmapofnorfolk.co.uk/largeview.asp?Image=norwich.gif&Back=index

Faden’s Map of Norfolk. The map was the first large-scale map (at one inch to the mile) of the whole county and shows the landscape just prior to Parliamentary Enclosure of the early 19th century. Surveyed between 1790 and 1794 the map was published in 1797 in London by William Faden, Geographer to His Majesty. Within 15 years of the map’s publication the extensive commons, heaths and warrens had largely disappeared. Extract: Norwich. Enlarge ». 2005 - 2016 Andrew Macnair. Web site by Vantech Media.

Faden's map of London 1788 · Digitally redrawn by Andrew Macnair, 2009 · Home

Faden's map of London: About the map. William Faden's map of the country twenty five miles round London. Planned from a scale of one mile to an inch, first published 1788, digitally redrawn by Andrew Macnair, 2009. About Faden’s map. Extract from original map - click to enlarge. Faden came to dominate the publication of newly surveyed county maps but this map, published first in 1788, is not from a new survey; it is an amalgam of existing county maps surveyed from the mid 1760’s onwards.
