Musings of a Madwoman. Reinvent yourself, one mid-life crisis at a time…. I’ll be giving peaks at my novel-length works on this page. They will be few and far between but I hope you enjoy what there is. Below is an excerpt from the novel I’m presently shopping around. Let me know what you think. It was a rich orange, almost painful to look at against the stark white of the snow beneath it. A fine lacework of black wound through it, trailing off to a tiny pair of lines hanging into nothing. The fit slowly...

100 Words a Day | Dave Cushing

Musings of an aspiring author and computer geek. 100 Words a Day. 100 Words a Day. March 1, 2011. After months of dedicated procrastination, it’s time to get back to some writing. Rather than outlining an epic tale or attempting to flesh out the ideas for a short story (both of which I accomplish by leaning back in my favourite recliner with my eyes closed), I have decided to keep my expectations low. It’s worked for my wife, so it should work for me. The challenge: 100 words a day.

Writing Advice | Dave Cushing

Musings of an aspiring author and computer geek. June 13, 2011. 8220;So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don’t use very sad, use morose. Language was invented for one reason, boys – to woo women – and, in that endeavor, laziness will not do. It also won’t do in your essays.”. 8211; John Keating, Dead Poet’s Society. Tuesday, February 5, 2013. The greatest wonder of any piece of good literature is how it can conjure an image of the characters portrayed and scenery described. The only aid is some decipherable words, but their juxtaposition plays such a magic that the reader is literally sucked into the aura created by it. Such is the power of literature, and has been since man knew how to pen thoughts to symbols. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Awesome Inc. template. Powered by Blogger.

Sunday, August 16, 2009. This, the depiction of the under-stratum India, is the first thing that strikes everyone, Indian and non-Indian alike. But what should I say more? I lived my childhood in the same district, Gaya, which he is talking about. I can’t refute even a single thing that he has written. It makes it worse. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
