A Bike Build: Surly Cross Check
http://danmitch.typepad.com/a_bike_build/surly-cross-check
Surly Cross Check with North Road Bars and Bar End Shifters. I built up Debbies Surly Cross Check. In March last year with drop bars, but due to neck and back problems, a rebuild was needed for a more upright and comfy ride. The choice of bars was the biggest decision and I ended up choosing Nitto North Road bars. Other possibilities included Albatross bars which are very similar and Moustache bars, which I think would have lacked the comfort for city commuting. I have seen North Road bars with standard ...

South Western Road Club: Buzzard 600km audax
http://southwestern-swrc.blogspot.com/2015/06/buzzard-600km-audax.html
South Western Road Club. Monday, 29 June 2015. Paul had decided he needed a bit more training so I met him at the start outside Leighton Buzzard railway station, hence the event name. Paul, Matt and Nick had done their 600km event in May at the Bryan Chapman event that crosses Wales, twice. Again you have 40 hrs to complete or from Saturday morning till Sunday evening. There were about 30 riders at the start. My brevet card and receipts at the finish. Wetherspoon's breakfast - Only £3. Not a Bath bun.

South Western Road Club. Monday, 6 July 2015. I decided a few more racing miles were in order. Final preparation with my Time Trial Guru Mick 'The Quick'. It's a few years since I'd ridden it but. This year it was designated as the. VTTA national '100' so well over 100 riders on a chilly but. A bit of colour in a dismal Spring. Anfield is classed as a SPOCO. Mick came out and gashed his leg on. His pedal so had to be taken off to. Hospital for stitches (17! And I was left with a sense of a. Next up I had...

Upper Thames Audax | Adrian Fitch's random rambling
https://adrianfitch.wordpress.com/2014/11/02/upper-thames-audax-2
Adrian Fitch’s random rambling. A bit about cycling, a bit about genealogy, a bit about radio but mostly a lot about nothing at all. November 2, 2014. My third successive year riding this event and my slowest so far. Started at 7:30 and finished at 17:00, so not a bad overall time but only 35 mins of this was spent stopped. Barely enough time to grab a ham and cheese sandwich in Bicester and cup of coffee in Bampton (I bounced both controls). Next event: South Bucks Winter Warmer on Dec 6. Fill in your d...

Psychalist: June 2010
http://psychalist.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, 27 June 2010. Mini Tour to the Lakes and back. I got to the Lake District and back to Lancashire again in one piece. A total of 119 miles over two days. Some great countryside and very quiet lanes. I know about it now though. Partly I think the heat was tiring, but distance, long hours in the saddle and my lack of training on that particular bike were big factors. Not that I'm exhausted, just enjoyably tired after all the exercise and looking forward to some food. On the Bowland fells. Later ther...

Psychalist: December 2014
http://psychalist.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, 21 December 2014. Solstice day. Grey and 'mild for the time of year'. Incentive gone, sapped by midwinter gloom. Fitness ambition playing off against lie-in mentality. Saddle and fireside chair, magnets of opposing poles. Roast dinner, stew and broth, winter comfort not for the athlete. Forty year old Christmas songs repeatedly invade. Incentive enough to brave dank, dark wind. Familiar cafes, steamed up windows beaming lighthouse salvation. Don't give up, give in, days are getting longer.

Psychalist: September 2011
http://psychalist.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 6 September 2011. Sunny lunchtimes are too good to miss out on having a quick ride. I decided on the cycling equivalent of a photowalk, the photoride. Within a short distance of work there are some interesting places, such as the few mill buildings that stand as reminders of Blackburn's cotton industry heritage. Monday, 5 September 2011. Way of the Roses. We were hoping for some good weather this week as four of us take a trip across the Pennines on a 3 day mini cycle tour along the. My commute:...
