The area of campus enclosed so far, Phase I, has been graded and cleared of rocks. Landscaping now helps to keep the courtyard more attractive, and most of all, less muddy in rainy season. Current plans include paving an area of the courtyard to provide the opportunityfor enhanced recreation activities such as volleyball and basketball. Winter 2010 : New School Construction. The Buea School for the Deaf (BSD) was founded in 2003 by Aloysius and Margaret Bibum. Within a few short years, the school was given authorization as an educational institution by the Ministry of Social Affairs and grew from 13 to 102 students. The hope is to change attitudes, erasing stereotypes that limit deaf persons. Among the inspirations for this change are BSD’s founders and current directors, Aloysius and Margaret Bibum. As deaf professionals they represent broad possibilities for the children they guide. BSD teaching staff, interns, and volunteers reach out to inform families about educational goals and the economic self-sufficiency possible as their deaf children reach adulthood. Thank you for your interest and support of the Buea School for the Deaf (BSD). There are several ways to support BSD:. In June of 2010, BSD had a recently-purchased, vacant parcel of land. By January, 2011, three modest classroom buildings had been constructed. However, there are continuing needs for secondary level classrooms and for actual rather than make-shift sleeping quarters. FoBSD’s primary goal is to promote deaf education at the Buea School for the Deaf (BSD) in Cameroon.
