In the upside down world that we live in, science is going on a hiatus at Brooklyn Botanic and Flatbush Gardener, (a gardener and blogger. Has started a petition. Jackie's Secret Garden: September 2010
http://jackiessecretgarden.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 24, 2010. This is why we should always grow zucchini :). Zucchini foils bear attack for Montana woman. HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A Montana woman fended off a bear trying to muscle its way into her home Thursday by pelting the animal with a large piece of zucchini from her garden. The woman suffered minor scratches and one of her dogs was wounded after tussling with the 200-pound bear. This story is courtesy of the Monterey County Herald.). This might just be the best. Use of zucchini ever!

Jackie's Secret Garden: Cabbage worm myth - debunked!
http://jackiessecretgarden.blogspot.com/2010/11/cabbage-worm-myth-debunked.html
Saturday, November 6, 2010. Cabbage worm myth - debunked! Such a pretty little butterfly. Such a destructive little larvae! Cabbage worms abound on my brassicas this year, so I just purchased a roll of floating row cover. But it's too late for the ones that are already being munched on. What to do? Search the internet, of course! Hmmmhere's a possible solution. If anybody has actually had luck with this method, please let me know. Otherwise, I suggest we save our flour and baking soda for the kitchen!

I Dig Gardening...: March 2010
http://judy-idiggardening.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 19, 2010. What Color is Your Garden? As I entered the Gardener’s "Show House". At the Des Moines Botanical Center,. A question posted on the wall caught my eye. Colors in our gardens supposedly "say" something about us. Do you tend to favor. ORANGE in your garden? Perhaps you are fond of YELLOW,. Or, how about GREEN. I'm especially fond of. As in these impatiens. The crisp, coolness of WHITE. Or the eye-catching color of RED? And finally, the soothing color of PURPLE. A Work in Progress.

Secret Cottage Garden: September 2009
http://secretcottagegarden.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Dedicated to the garden spirits that live here. Monday, September 28, 2009. My tomato is still producing, despite the heat-damaged foliage. My leafy begonia did not survive the heat. I hope they will produce new leaves from the bulb. I keep watering them. The path the painters made through my bed to get at the side of the house. It will take some time for this to recover. There is some good news. Despite the heat some plants have fourished. Witness my peony rose. Four buds! Posted by Mary Delle LeBeau.

Secret Cottage Garden: Blue on Blue
http://secretcottagegarden.blogspot.com/2009/11/blue-on-blue.html
Dedicated to the garden spirits that live here. Saturday, November 28, 2009. My first 78 record was Blue on Blue when I was a teenager. I was never really fond of the song, but will never forget the title. Bobby Vinton was singing a song about having the blues. And this post is about the blues, but in my garden, inspired by Kiki at Awake with Charm and Spirit. First a huge thank you to two wonderful bloggers who have given me the best blog award. And from The Violet Fern. Echeveria in Blue Ceramic pot.

Gardening Gone Bad
Oh boy…. been a LONG time. August 23, 2011. Yes, I have been gardening but no I have obviously not been blogging. So I guess I should get back into it. Have I been growing anything. You know it! Zukes, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Tom (lots and lots of them), Peppers (lots and lots of them), CORN, and a few others. The Tom’s came in nice this year. I have had over 50 nice red and ripe ones. Weird since it has been hell trying to make them turn the last few years. I have a few ears again! And they look great!

Thursday, July 30, 2009. Here is a picture of a tomato with blossom end rot. (although since peppers are in the same family as tomatoes they can get it as well and just as easy). Basically at that point the fight is over, and that tomato is a goner. I usually pick them and toss them away. If you have clay soil can I suggest you add lots of organic material? Clay soil is a common problem in vegy gardens. Clay soil just isn't great for growing, even weeds sometimes. The same can be said of Sandy so...The a...
