Power on | The House of the Lifted Lorax
https://liftedlorax.wordpress.com/2007/07/18/power-on
The House of the Lifted Lorax. Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot …. July 18, 2007 in Alternative energy. As I write this at noon, the solar panels are cranking out more than 1,000 watts of electricity and have generated 1.3 kilowatt hours of electricity in barely an hour. And the power meter is spinning backwards. You can see the wheel in the center going clockwise, instead of the usual counterclockwise. David of Harvest Solar. Here’s what the finished installation looks like:. We’ve ...

Hit me with your best shot. Vegetarian Friday: Roasted asparagus with mushroom-walnut couscous. March 13, 2015. 1 bunch asparagus, washed and trimmed. 2 tbsp. olive oil. 2 cloves garlic, chopped. 2 tbsp. water. 1/2 lb. mushrooms, washed. 2 tbsp. olive oil. 2 cloves garlic, chopped. 1 c whole-wheat couscous. 1 1/2 c. water. Butter to taste (optional). 1/2 c chopped nuts (I used black walnuts, but pecans or English walnuts would work as well). While vegetables cook, combine couscous and water in a microwav...
A journalist looks at 40 | Red Fork Hippie
https://redforkhippie.wordpress.com/2015/05/30/a-journalist-looks-at-40
Hit me with your best shot. A journalist looks at 40. May 30, 2015. NOTE: I know. I’ve been distracted. I’ll post an update on my projects eventually, but I have more important things to discuss at the moment. I am 40 today. I’ve wanted to be 40 since high school. My parents turned 40 when I was 16, and I always saw 40 as the dividing line between “kid” and “grownup.”. All I ever wanted in life was to be a grownup. She also obliterated my patience with condescending adults. How my garden grows. 3 thought...
One year later … | The House of the Lifted Lorax
https://liftedlorax.wordpress.com/2008/07/21/one-year-later
The House of the Lifted Lorax. Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot …. One year later …. July 21, 2008 in Uncategorized. On July 18, 2007, our home solar system of nine 170-watt solar panels and a Sunny Boy inverter was fired up. About one year later, the system has generated a total of 2,130 kilowatt-hours of electricity. Taking away 10 days because of a power outage this winter. That translates to an average of 5.96 kilowatt-hours every day. Harvest Solar & Wind Energy. One year later ….

The House of the Lifted Lorax. Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot …. December 19, 2007 in Alternative energy. The past month has been a strange one at the House of the Lifted Lorax. In the meantime, I’ve been collecting downed tree limbs to become next year’s firewood. We probably already have enough wood for next winter. Harvest Solar & Wind Energy. One year later …. On ‘Your meter’s runn…. On ‘Your meter’s runn…. Techrazies on The days are getting shorter…. Comments feed for this article.
How my garden grows | Red Fork Hippie
https://redforkhippie.wordpress.com/2015/06/06/how-my-garden-grows
Hit me with your best shot. How my garden grows. June 6, 2015. I’m slowly but surely turning my backyard into the sort of enchanted garden I’ve always wanted. I’m still several hundred pounds of Sackrete, ten lawn gnomes and a couple more growing seasons away, but it’s really taking shape this summer. Here is the view from the little bench next to the pond. I love my mermaid. Now for a few details:. I have a lawn gnome I bought last spring that I’m going to paint this week to look like the Ninth Do...

Belated update | The House of the Lifted Lorax
https://liftedlorax.wordpress.com/2008/10/25/belated-update
The House of the Lifted Lorax. Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot …. October 25, 2008 in Backyard chickens. Apologies for the long delay between posts; it’s been an insane year. Anyway, we are now getting ready for winter here at the House of the Lifted Lorax. We had more insulation installed in the attic a few weeks ago, so we should be able to stay warmer while consuming less energy this winter. 2 Lay the outlet cover on the tray and trace around it with a pencil. 3 Cut along the lines....

The House of the Lifted Lorax. Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot …. You are currently browsing redforkhippie’s articles. December 4, 2011 in Agriculture. So … yeah. Three years between posts. My excuse? We’re just too bloody busy. So busy, in fact, that while we continue to adhere to a more or less environmentally friendly lifestyle, we haven’t really done anything new since that last post. We’re just maintaining. That said, we. Droughts, heat waves, blossom-end rot, fusarium wilt, and an i...

Harvest Eve - On the last day of October... - Harvest Eve
Harvest Eve - Celebrating Family. A positive alternative to halloween that brings people and communities together on October 31. Harvest Eve is for everyone. It is a celebration of family, faith, and community. It is a good reason to dress up in fun costumes and walk around the neighborhood gathering candy. With all the things that we differ on as a society, there needs to be at least one night a year that we enjoy what brings us together. Happy Harvest Eve! Pop's Teasers (in single page format).pdf.
