Skip to main content. 1970 - 1980: Expansion. The seventies saw great expansion of research facilities at IGPP, with the development of the Piñon Flat Observatory (PFO). Work at PFO began in 1970, at which time the land was owned by the U.S. Forest Service; it was purchased by the University in 1980 with generous support from Cecil and Ida Green. The Piñon Flat Observatory. Was formed in 1984 and IGPP became the IDA/IRIS network operations center. Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

Skip to main content. The Global Seismographic Network is a permanent digital network of state-of-the-art seismological and geophysical sensors connected by a telecommunications network, serving as a multi-use scientific facility and societal resource for monitoring, research, and education. Formed in partnership among the USGS, the National Science Foundation (NSF). And the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS). The IDA group at UC San Diego. And other affiliate organizations.

EEW Infrastructure - Earthquake Early Warning at Caltech
http://www.eew.caltech.edu/infrastructure/index.html
Earthquake Early Warning relies on rapid detection and transmission of ground motions from an on-going earthquake. Current EEW systems use ground motions measured by seismometers installed across California. These seismic stations are part of the California Integrated Seismic Network (CISN). A collaborative organization of state and federal government agencies as well as universities. Additional information is provided below on the following topics:. Introduction to the CISN.
