Monday, March 30, 2015. What to Do With All That Orange Peel. Remember how I said I like wintertime oranges.every time I peel one, I want to save the rind for orangette. Cut orange peels into 1/4-inch wide strips. Place rinds in saucepan. Cover with cold water and bring to boil. Drain. Repeat this two more times. I did it 2013.

The Dinner Files :: Africa
http://www.thedinnerfiles.com/category/africa
Recipe-driven observations from the sublime to the ridiculous. Fried goat and discomfort. I am just back from Addis Ababa. It is big and sprawling and amazing and smoggy and fascinating and filled with traffic and rubble and green and yellow painted corrugated tin construction fences. The tej and goat were consolation for our inability to see the waterfall, baboons, and medieval monastery we had set out to see. As we headed back to Addis our driver-friend asked if we wanted to stop for lunch. The...After...

Recipe-driven observations from the sublime to the ridiculous. But the first time he really skated – which, during his many protests that he’d already gone and didn’t like it when I was saying that since he hadn’t actually skated yet he had no idea if he liked it or not, I described as gliding on the ice with alternating feet – was on December 30 in the Parc La Fontaine in Montréal. The Dinner Files :: eggnog

Recipe-driven observations from the sublime to the ridiculous. The BMW of eggnogs. I have a friend who is the kind of person who is asked to do things like drive a BMW around for a month and write up a few blogs about his experience driving a BMW around. While I’m quite happy not driving a BMW or any other automobile around, I must admit that I would like to be the kind of person about whom someone thinks: Hey, you know what would be interesting? Several cheeses, an orange cake, a turtle tart, some brill...

The Dinner Files :: Paris
http://www.thedinnerfiles.com/category/paris
Recipe-driven observations from the sublime to the ridiculous. Not bad, I said twenty-five years ago after choking down the chewy, gray nugget with a smile on my face. They are super, aren’t they? My Dijonnais host father asked, full of enthusiasm, as he always was when exposing me to something particularly French. It is strange that escargots are a Burgundian specialty, I observed, avoiding the question he had actually asked. Because we are so far from the sea, I said. I started with this colander full ...

Adventures in Lifelong Learning. Sunday, December 14, 2008. Local Foods with Molly Watson. Yes, here's a first for The Everyday Scholar. This week we're going to talk about food and resources for lifelong learners. I guess the idea started with Thanksgiving and trying to decide whether to go traditional or expand our horizons and try some new recipes. While doing the required research, I discovered some great places to learn about what's going on with food these days. See what you think about Local Foods.

Local Food Rocks
Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Homemade Pickles Are A Breeze with HomeBrew. I first started making my own refrigerator pickles a couple of years ago thanks to a bountiful cucumber crop from my garden. Refrigerator pickles are what I consider, in the best possible way, slacker pickles. Compared to traditional methods of pickling, the refrigerator version isnt as complicated or as lengthy a process. Well, now thanks to my March Degustabox. A product that makes refrigerator pickles even easier! I cannot get enoug...

Saturday, 1 November 2014. Days with an abundance of apples part 1. This year, the apples have just kept coming.for the last two months, I've been eating them raw, in Dorset apple cakes, apple crumbles, and there are pounds and pounds of slightly stewed apples in the freezer ready for more warming crumbles to come throughout the rest of autumn and winter. Stir and cover tautly with cling film. Now this is a jelly which goes extremely well with lamb and my lot vastly prefer it to mint sauce. It's also...
