I finally went to Mission Doloris. When my old friend Sara was in town. The ceilings were the best part, that and the lady we flabbergasted when we told her we were not going to participate in the optional donation fee, ha! I love a good diorama. I put Nico's hair in a bun, and then took it out. Wild. Please note all the teething drool, poor thing. I can't believe how fast this Summer has gone by! One of the many new parent things you hear nothing about until you are in the thick of it. On the plus s...

SF History: Crocker's Crime. The fence is located behind the center building. Charles Crocker was one of the "Associates," also called the "Big Four." He shared this title with Collis P. Huntington, Mark Hopkins, and Leland Stanford. All in someway played a role in the creation of the Central Pacific Railroad, and all of them amassed huge fortunes and built mansions to reflect this on Nob Hill. How did the public feel about this aggressive display of wealth and power? Labels: San Francisco History. As Sa...

The art of nature ]. Thursday, March 31, 2005. Some chick dies- finally- and that's the news. That's the news? Meanwhile, desperate prognostications that we are all in for it, that the earth's feeding tube is about to be unplugged. Woosh by unnoticed, like that flock of birds that should be gliding overhead, but isn't, because the species went extinct. Mother nature- our mother- what is the phrase? Posted by Erik @ 6:40 PM. The Work of Samuel Berger: April 2010
http://samuelberger.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Today was one of those days where I wanted to jump up and down with joy! Another piece of the puzzle. By Taylor Coffman, 2003. Sam is referred to on page 316 and pgs. 341-42 in the notes. I was elated! The first time I've seen his name published. I've been having quite a hard time finding out exactly what work he did at Hearst Castle (there is a lot), so this was a great surprise. Something in writing. Thursday, April 22, 2010. Grace Cathedral: Part Two. As part of an ongoing e...

Thursday, October 28, 2010. I was absolutely thrilled when Valerie Schmalz, a writer for the San Francisco Catholic Weekly. Contacted me about doing a story about my great-grandfather's work. She had stumbled upon this blog and thought there could be a great potential story. Well, tomorrow the story is officially in the paper and online. I'm so elated to have my great-grandfather recognized for his magnificent wood-carving! You can read the whole article here. October 28, 2010 at 10:48 AM. My great-grand...

The Work of Samuel Berger: August 2011

Tuesday, August 9, 2011. When my Mom passed away recently, I had the painful task of going through her things. This left me with inheriting the stunning lamp Sam carved so many decades ago. This lamp was carved for my grandparents. It was my grandmother's prized possession. She would stare at the cherubs for hours. When people came over she would proudly show them her father's lamp. Well, Mom and Bannie (my grandma) died a year and a half apart, so the lamp suddenly became mine. It shouldn't be here.".
