But you can’t cut me off! | The Books and Book Life of Monique Roffey

The Books and Book Life of Monique Roffey. But you can’t cut me off! Today a huge cardboard box arrived from Chicago. It was very exciting opening it. Inside a big purple hatbox and inside the hatbox a mountain of sexy and expensive chocolates – a gift from Barbara Kingsolver. My flatmate, Kina, a chocoholic almost fainted when he saw the cache. This gift has been very gratefully received. Thank you Barbara. 8220;Oh, really? 8221; he cooed, interested. “I’ll make a note of that.”. Said this on June 24, 2...

Man on the Moon | Drew Gummerson Blog

Me and Mickie James. Man on the Moon. Man on the moon. Forty years ago on July 20th Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. Having travelled 250,000 miles across space he brought his NASA moonlander down with literally seconds of fuel to spare. It was true Boy’s Own stuff. To celebrate this fact over on the 50 Word Short Story. Group I’ve been running a Moon Man 50 Word short story competition. Thanks to Aliya Whiteley. Imagine my surprise when I found my wallet on the moon! The moon lan...

Holiday, writing, reading… | Drew Gummerson Blog
https://drewgum.wordpress.com/2009/06/28/holiday-writing-reading
Me and Mickie James. Holiday, writing, reading…. No arses not even one. Just to recap before the film…. Actually I’ve checked the cinema listings for tonight and there’s not one thing I want to see. Except the film with Eric Cantona in and the only showing of that was 12 midday. As it’s about two million degrees I might give that a miss. NEW ROOMS ON TOP FLOOR NOW WITH SEA-VIEWS! Global warming I presume leading to the reposition of the oceans. We’re going to ‘sunny hunny’ Hunstanton on sea. Normally I g...

Me and Mickie James. Me and Mickie James. Down By Law are a pop duo like no other. For a start Mickie James has a hunchback, but that doesn’t matter, he is the talented one. From their base in a disused room at the top of St Pancras Station they plan to take the music industry by storm. Only first they need gigs, a record deal and a flushable toilet. 8220;Me and Mickie James” is a novel of amazing energy and humour about love, fate and the importance of pop music in all our lives. Buy Me and Mickie James.

Oh, what a week that was | The Books and Book Life of Monique Roffey
https://moniqueroffey.wordpress.com/2010/04/29/oh-what-a-week-that-was
The Books and Book Life of Monique Roffey. Oh, what a week that was. I’ve just had an incredible ten days. I was back at Totleigh Barton, in Devon, looking after a grand old house. I then heard the news that I have been short-listed – for the Orange Prize. Four days later, I turned forty-five. I went to Cornwall to stay with a friend; I came back. By moniqueroffey on April 29, 2010. Posted in My Writing Life. 5 Responses to “Oh, what a week that was”. Dear Mon’ (may I call you Mon’? At the time I was thi...

Living in an artist’s house | The Books and Book Life of Monique Roffey
https://moniqueroffey.wordpress.com/2010/08/03/living-in-an-artists-house
The Books and Book Life of Monique Roffey. Living in an artist’s house. I have found blogging hard these last few months. I have been busy. Or perhaps I am just not a blogger, not committed? I have been teaching at Totleigh Barton. And T he Hurs. With that nice poet Cliff Yates. And that young David Flufeder. An artist’s house is clean and full of art. A writers house is grubby and full of books. By Carson McCullers, that Amercian prodigy. I like her work very much. By moniqueroffey on August 3, 2010.

Books to read beside the sea… | Drew Gummerson Blog
https://drewgum.wordpress.com/2009/08/03/books-to-read-beside-the-sea
Me and Mickie James. Books to read beside the sea…. In summer our reading takes us inexorably to the sea. It may have been the Prince Regent, in the early nineteenth century, who made this flight to the coast fashionable with the remodelling of his summer palace, the glorious Brighton Pavilion. And so he might have taken with him on those summer jaunts, Sir Walter Scott’s The Pirate (1821), or James Fenimore Cooper’s, The Pioneers (1822). I don’t know. Feed for this Entry.
