The Real Company: My Bad Boyfriend Barack
http://www.therealcompany.com/article/14/my-bad-boyfriend-barack
My Bad Boyfriend Barack. Barack is my bad boyfriend. He just won’t leave me alone. I have been in my car, in the grocery, asleep, on the steps of the US Capitol even, and there he is, pinging away at my close friends and family email account on my cell phone. I haven’t tried to contact him in months and yet he sends me emails almost every day. Can’t a guy take a hint? What if Hillary shows up? Should I just act cool? It’s not my fault, I didn’t really lead him on, did I? What kind of crazy world is this?

The Real Company: This is Not a Test, This is Not a Blog
http://www.therealcompany.com/article/4/big-test
This is Not a Test, This is Not a Blog. Dispatch from Wood Outpost, March 13, 2007. This is Not a Test, This is Not a Blog. It has recently come to my attention that someone thinks I’m posting a blog. Let me make this crystal-clear: THIS. Now, stay with me here, a blog is something one might jot down onto a coffee shop napkin. Or blow out into one. Really, no self-respecting writer would admit to generating a blog, would they? And I may threaten to kill anyone who calls this a blog. Strike that, some...

The Real Company: I Want to Believe...in Bigfoot And Other Fairy Tales
http://www.therealcompany.com/article/10/i-want-to-believein-bigfoot-and-other-fairy-tales
I Want to Believe.in Bigfoot And Other Fairy Tales. There are some subjects which keep rolling along every few years. Stories with long legs (and feet to match) which just got to get up and stretch once in a while. I was sitting in a restaurant noshing on Indian food when I realized I was missing the biggest news story of the day. Somehow when I had driven driven down El Camino a few minutes earlier I had missed the CNN. And the Chinese could learn a thing or two about cost-effective publicity from a pai...

The Real Company: Vanity Surfing, or, What's in a Name?
http://www.therealcompany.com/article/8/vanity-surfing-or-whats-in-a-name
Vanity Surfing, or, Whats in a Name? Vanity Surfing, or, What’s in a Name? Today I discovered I had been shot out into space. Years ago even and nobody had bothered to mention it to me. Well, my name had gone where no Bennett-Wood had gone before. But NASA. I’d been to Mars before, with the Red Rover Project. I and a few of my space groupie buddies hitched a ride via the Planetary Society. On a special glass DVD. Whether you’re out there in cyberspace or actual outer space, there are some interesting con...

The Real Company: The New Gatsby

Whichever event, happy Groupon IPO. Happy Shabbat, happy money, happy us, it’s a spectacle. Who would want to look away? All is money and image. Paying for parties on this scale isn’t personal spending anyway, it’s chess on a more interesting scale. Now it’s the social network genius’s time to bang a gong and upset the income stream.
