Posted June 06, 2014. Seahawks CB Richard Sherman wins Madden NFL 15 cover vote. Richard Sherman’s exceptional year just got a little bit better. It’s been a pretty decent year for Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. He led the NFL in interceptions with eight in 2013, became Pro Football Focus’ highest-rated cornerback by allowing a ridiculous 47.3 opposing passer rating, was an absolute shutdown corner in the postseason that led to Seattle’s first Super Bowl title. He attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, hung out with President Obama a bit, got re-acquainted with the Prez when the Seahawks were honored at the White House for their NFL title, and signed a $57.4 million contract extension. All in all, not bad for a fifth-round pick in 2011 out of Stanford who used to play receiver. And now, to cap it all off, Sherman beat Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in the final of the. cover vote, which will put him in front of the biggest sports video game. There were about 10 million votes in total, and about 650,000 per matchup. Sherman beat Bears receiver Alshon Jeffery, Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Newton to earn the Madden crown. Posted June 06, 2014. Break it Down: Dominique Easley could redefine New England’s defensive fronts. AFC East, Break It Down, New England Patriots. In college, the only way to stop a healthy Dominique Easley was to hold him. For a guy who played in just three games and amassed five tackles in 2013, Florida defensive lineman Dominique Easley certainly did a fine job of upsetting the bottom end of the 2014 draft’s first round. When he was selected 29th overall by the Patriots, the Seahawks — who were looking hard at Easley with the 32nd pick — traded out of the first round and allowed the Minnesota Vikings to take Teddy Bridgewater there. Bill Belichick, whose history with hybrid pass-rushers goes back to his time as the Giants’ special teams and linebackers coach in 1981 (and his work with a promising rookie named Lawrence Taylor), talked about Easley’s possible roles in New England’s defense with more effusiveness than one usually sees. “He s played everywhere along the defensive line,” the coach said on May 8, just after the first round wrapped up. “It depends on where you put him. I ll say you don t see a lot of guys who do that who play, I mean, he lines up on the nose, he lines up on the guard, he lines up on the tackle, he lines up out wide at times. You can see him playing all those spots… He does a lot of things well. He s a smart guy, he s very instinctive. He s got a great motor, works hard. Football is very important to him. He s an all-in guy. There s not much to not like about him. Posted June 06, 2014. Offseason Report Card: Steelers. 2014 Offseason Report Cards, AFC North, Pittsburgh Steelers. Ryan Shazier has a chance to be a force in Pittsburgh’s defense from Day 1. With the flurry of NFL offseason action nearly in the books, Chris Burke and Doug Farrar take stock of every team s offseason. Find all our Offseason Report Cards here. The Pittsburgh Steelers missed the playoffs in 2012. Then they missed them again in 2013. Just like that, the franchise is facing its longest postseason drought since 1998-2000, a stretch that Pittsburgh followed with three Super Bowl trips and two Super Bowl wins over the next decade. GM Kevin Colbert has spent the past two offseasons trying simultaneously to strip down his team’s unwieldy payroll and to stay competitive as the championship window with his core pieces closes. The results of that work have been mixed at best. Posted June 05, 2014. Offseason Report Card: Cleveland Browns. 2014 Offseason Report Cards, AFC North, Cleveland Browns. The Browns hope that Johnny Manziel proves himself ready for the NFL sooner than later. With the flurry of NFL offseason action nearly in the books, Chris Burke and Doug Farrar take stock of every team s offseason. Find all our Offseason Report Cards here. An ...
