A Whole 30 Reflection | John Whitten's Blog
https://thegatheringabilene.wordpress.com/2015/08/13/a-whole-30-reflection
John Whitten's Blog. Pastor of The Gathering Pioneer Drive. August 13, 2015. A Whole 30 Reflection. On July 6, my wife and I began the Whole 30 Challenge. For 30 days, we gave up processed foods, dairy, sugar-added foods, and pretty much anything that tasted good. As a side note we did discover many foods that are healthy and TASTE good! But nothing compares to my Reese’s peanut butter cups! I thought I’d provide some reflections. 3 Changing what we eat made us feel better. Trading in my cereal, sand...

John Whitten's Blog. Pastor of The Gathering Pioneer Drive. August 31, 2016. Recently Nathan Adams, our Missions Minister, came to me with an idea to better get to know people through our blog. I loved the idea, so let me introduce you to Take 5: An interview collection of Pioneer family members, guests, neighbors and partners. We hope these spark a renewed curiosity in people, and help us love more by listening better. How would you describe yourself to someone who has never met you? If you have feedbac...

John Whitten's Blog. Pastor of The Gathering Pioneer Drive. Daily Archives: June 11, 2015. June 11, 2015. Fear, Faith, Underdogs, and the Future of the Church …. I don’t think it would be a stretch to say that in many ways Christianity has gone, in our culture at least, from top dog to playing the role of the underdog. Some celebrate that reality because they want Christianity out of the public square. Others tremble at that reality for a loss of influence and security they felt they used to have. I enjo...

The Whole 30 Challenge… | John Whitten's Blog
https://thegatheringabilene.wordpress.com/2015/07/16/the-whole-30-challenge
John Whitten's Blog. Pastor of The Gathering Pioneer Drive. July 16, 2015. The Whole 30 Challenge…. I’m a food junkie. Literally. I could eat for a living. Some people eat to work out. I work out so I can eat. Can you relate? We are just a few days in, and I am not going to lie—it is very hard. In fact, I’m more nervous about finishing the rest of this month without sugar and processed foods than I am about starting my doctoral degree! What attachments do you have? Good News from a Distant Land →. You ar...

I don’t know about you—but I want to be as absolutely consistent and faithful as I can in how I read and understand God’s word which means that I need to take all of it seriously. Let’s take a look at a difficult passage found in the book of Luke, chapter 3. 11 John answered, Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.

Hot! | John Whitten's Blog
https://thegatheringabilene.wordpress.com/2015/07/09/hot-2
John Whitten's Blog. Pastor of The Gathering Pioneer Drive. July 9, 2015. One of the first words we taught our son Sam was the word hot! What do you do when you get hot? If I’m supposed to be hot, like when I am working in the yard, I’m ok. But, when I think I’m supposed to be cool (in the house), and it’s hot, I get tired, cranky, and overall grumpy. Let’s use heat as a metaphor. When life gets hot, how do you respond? 13 Jesus answered, Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoev...

John Whitten's Blog. Pastor of The Gathering Pioneer Drive. Daily Archives: August 6, 2015. August 6, 2015. If, Me, Then? As I’m writing this blog, I am fresh from attending a funeral service for a brother of one of my good friends. The man who passed away was a great family man who loved Jesus with all his heart. However, in his middle ages and having the time of life he never saw the brain cancer diagnoses coming. He asked another question. Why not, me? Interesting. Moving. Powerful. If me, then. Jesus...

John Whitten's Blog. Pastor of The Gathering Pioneer Drive. Daily Archives: July 30, 2015. July 30, 2015. Good News from a Distant Land. You know how refreshing a cup of cold water is when you are hot and thirsty. This summer I have been reading through the book of Proverbs, and recently one particular Proverb struck me:. Like cold water to a weary soul. Is good news from a distant land. (Proverbs 25:25). Have you ever found yourself in a place where you desperately needed good news? A loved one is sick?
