the autism crisis: What's autism anyway?
http://autismcrisis.blogspot.com/2006/10/whats-autism-anyway.html
Science and ethics in the era of autism politics. Saturday, October 28, 2006. This is something I wrote that was posted on jypsy and Alex's iRunman blog. Posted by Michelle Dawson. I have read a lot online about you (and some online from. You) over the recent past and was pleased to see an article about you and Mottron, in French (which I promptly downloaded and then forgot to read) with a photo, because it's good to be able to put a face to a name. Thank you for this explanation. Hi Sharon G.,. It is re...

the autism crisis: Proposed new autism criteria: the DSM-V
http://autismcrisis.blogspot.com/2010/02/proposed-new-autism-criteria-dsm-v.html
Science and ethics in the era of autism politics. Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Proposed new autism criteria: the DSM-V. And here are ten off-the-cuff thoughts:. 1 The most sit-up-and-take-notice change is the total removal of Rett syndrome from the DSM. It is gone. The DSM-V people are saying, "genetic syndromes don't belong in our book," or words to that effect, and I agree. 5 The headline-making but most predictable- and most predictably responded to- change is the loss of Asperger's and PDD-NOS,.

Ups and Downs: Phoneme Touch and Say
http://aliceiscanadian.blogspot.com/2008/01/phoneme-touch-and-say.html
Monday, January 14, 2008. Phoneme Touch and Say. Alfie learned a new sign this week. 'My turn' - or 'me'. He's so pleased with himself for learning it that it's meaning has changed to 'Wow look mummy I can do a sign, look! And has emerged from her professional practice and her experience of having a daughter who has Down syndrome herself. How about we put it this way up? Would you like the cow? Instead of doing this, I'm going to try and say shorter, or one word, sentences - 'more' 'this way' 'cow'. ...

Ups and Downs: John McGinley
http://aliceiscanadian.blogspot.com/2008/01/john-mcginley.html
Tuesday, January 15, 2008. A good friend of mine found this article in a magazine he was reading while spending Christmas in Cape Town. It's by actor John McGinley, who is in the comedy series Scrubs. He has a son who has Down syndrome and this is a sweet and succinct story about life not turning out quite how one expects. You can read the whole article in Best Life. Labels: For New Parents. A lovely article. Thanks for linking it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Ups and Downs: Well, that was quick!
http://aliceiscanadian.blogspot.com/2008/02/well-that-was-quick.html
Thursday, February 21, 2008. Well, that was quick! I wrote that letter (below) in the morning and I know about four other people who also wrote. The mis-information on the Toronto Sick Kids website was removed by 2pm. It just goes to show that it is worth writing a personal letter - even a few letters can affect some change. In this country, it would have been illegal to publish it. Labels: Advocacy and Activities. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Well, that was quick!

Ups and Downs: Thank goodness for Holland!
http://aliceiscanadian.blogspot.com/2007/10/thank-goodness-for-holland.html
Friday, October 12, 2007. Thank goodness for Holland! This is interesting. The Down Syndrome Society in the Nederlands has launched a new poster campaign. The caption reads "I can. May I? Down Syndrome is a chronic illness and we are looking for suitable treatment". This strategy is to renew interest into research into Down syndrome and counteract the prevention of Down syndrome via termination of pregnancy. Hopefully our Down Syndrome Society will follow suit. Ups and Downs: Brothers playing
http://aliceiscanadian.blogspot.com/2007/10/brothers-playing.html
Monday, October 15, 2007. Alfie and Noah love to play together. Alfie can't take his eyes off his brother. I love these pictures! Where did you get the letters on the wall? Are they painted on? I love the letters too! The scale and font look really good. I am in Canada, too, but located in Burnaby, BC. I just wanted to say hello. Our son, Gabe, has Down syndrome. He's two and half years old. Quite a typical toddler, keeping me very busy! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.
