Fatboy 300B push-pull amp. The last few amplifiers that I've designed used pentodes and lots of NFB to get low distortion. So I decided to go to the other extreme: how low distortion could I achieve with no negative feedback of any kind. This great amplifier is a class-A, push-pull amp using a pair of 6B4G directly-heated triodes as the output stage. I built two versions of this amp. Version 1 uses two 6SN7's in the input stage, and delivers full output with around 300mV input. It's high input sensitivity is good for passive preamp systems. Both versions have the same driver (6SN7 diff amp) and output stage (6B4G's with cathode bias). Maximum output is about 7-89 watts. I made a few quick measurements on version 1:. A while back a friend that does some home recording asked me about a tube microphone preamp. Something I hadn't designed yet. so I designed one. This particular design is pretty high-end. I started with the best microphone input transformer I could find (at least without having something custom made). So this is not. An inexpensive preamp. the input transformer alone sells for $135! The total cost for everything including the case and PCB is right around $400. I'm selling the PCBs for $30 each on eBay.

Millett Low Voltage Tube Amp. The brainchild of Pete Millett designer of the Wheatfield Audio HA-1/HA-2 tube headphone amps, i first saw this low-voltage (24VDC) headphone amp in an AudioExpress article which included the schematic and detailed build instructions. Pete designed the amp to use valves that originated in 50s car radios, reasoning that these valves would still be available (through surplus stores , Ebay etc) as well as cheap and safe to use for the novice builder.
