According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 1.3 million childcare workers were employed in the United States in 2012. About 80 families live there, most of them without reliable electricity or running water. The roads here are unpaved, and residents say that in winter they are impassable. My reporting partner was video journalist and recent Pulitzer Center hire, Steve Sapienza. Together, we followed scientists and fishermen working on Cambodia's great lake, the Tonle Sap. Steve and I have several pieces coming out in June and July based on this reporting- in the New York Times.
