Glamis Castle: Overview of Glamis Castle

A castle on the outskirts of the village of Glamis. The home of the Earls of Strathmore. Was a Royal hunting lodge from as early as the 11th C., when King Malcolm II. C954 - 1018) is thought to have been murdered there. In the 15th Century an L-plan castle was built on lands that had earlier been given to Sir John Lyon by his father-in-law King Robert II. 1316-90). Lyon's son, who became Lord Glamis. In 1445, probably built the tower house. Lady Janet, the widow of the 6th Lord Glamis was a Douglas.

2016 Gazetteer for Scotland. The most southerly of the Midlothian. Reservoirs, Gladhouse lies 5 miles (8 km) south of Penicuik. In the shadow of the Moorfoot Hills. To the south of Edinburgh. Opened in 1879, it is the oldest of a network of reservoirs built on or close to the River South Esk. To supplying that city with more water, the smaller reservoirs in the Pentland Hills. But that’s just me. Just another WordPress.com site. Archive for April, 2011. This is the itinerary I promised to post. I’ll flesh it out and post a note when I do. May 4: in Edinburgh. We need to check out the public transportation system too, just to be sure we know how it works and that we can get where we want to go. Mostly though, we’ll just go off on our own and see what’s there and what interests us. A pub lunch, a nice dinner. My sister Chris is looking forward to trying deep-fried Mars Bars!
