Chasing The Mountains: Bid Time Return
http://chasingthemountains.blogspot.com/2016/03/bid-time-return.html
Saturday, March 19, 2016. Time only exists as a way to measure change. Some SF writer I read years ago whose name I can't remember. For funzies, try this: Try and guess what you will be thinking fifteen seconds from now. What about trying to recall exactly what was going through your mind two minutes ago? What about even, what about what you are experiencing rrriiiiiigghhhtt nnnowww. Now. No, now. Did you have any luck? Nor, no matter how hard I tried, was I able to recreate the memory of my previous ste...

Chasing The Mountains: January 2016
http://chasingthemountains.blogspot.com/2016_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 21, 2016. I'm standing outside the cabin. The dog is leaning against my leg. It's snowing, but so gently. Whichever way I turn the mountains show me something beautiful. I wish everyone could see this. I wish I could wrap it in a beautiful package and mail it to them. I wish I could take a picture of the quiet. Wednesday, January 20, 2016. How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Shower. I made friends with the shower today. Can I get a hell, yeah? Today something miraculous happened.

Chasing The Mountains: November 2015
http://chasingthemountains.blogspot.com/2015_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 29, 2015. Yesterday, after cake, our family went for a walk in the woods. My oldest nephew and his dog led the way, pulling my mother along in their wake. Four-year old nephew is eager to show his aunt the woods and the park near my grandmother’s house. The dog just wants to chase something. After that comes my sister and her husband. They are walking arm in arm, gently bickering about the logistics of their upcoming week. There’s a significant gap in the procession after that. As though...

Chasing The Mountains: The Level Of Our Training
http://chasingthemountains.blogspot.com/2016/04/the-level-of-our-training.html
Sunday, April 10, 2016. The Level Of Our Training. Cease from all evil whatsoever. I ain't evil, I'm just good-looking. Dogen, the thirteenth century Japanese monk widely-credited as the founder of our specific branch of Buddhism, opens his ' Rules for Meditation. With a series of questions. Essentially, he's asking: If the truth is always with us, why do we have to look to find it? If we believe enlightenment is part of our fundamental nature, why do we need to bother meditating? It's been awhile since ...

Note to Reader: walking in Laguna Beach
http://wlrobertson.blogspot.com/2013/08/walking-in-laguna-beach.html
Sunday, August 25, 2013. Walking in Laguna Beach. Thank you for not killing me. In the metal-grilled cross-hairs. Of your monstrous SUV. As I crossed the street. Cautiously, in full view, in daylight,. In the crosswalk where I thought I had a lawful right to be. And indeed once did in a different, slower world. When I could meander and even take a peek upward. At a trail of pelicans. Or outward at a glorious pod of dolphins,. But now I must deal with the likes of you. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Chasing The Mountains: Sun's Out, Monks Out
http://chasingthemountains.blogspot.com/2016/03/suns-out-monks-out.html
Wednesday, March 2, 2016. Sun's Out, Monks Out. I'm not a monk, but the time I most feel like one is walking down the mountain road carrying my laundry bag over my shoulder. I find myself thinking about other spiritual seekers over the centuries who have walked tree-lined paths, through the forests of Japan or Europe, and realizing that though I'm by myself, I'm not alone. This life is like any other life: I can't do it alone, and at the same time, no one else can do it for me. Jade Mountain Buddha Hall.

Chasing The Mountains: Just Like The Movies
http://chasingthemountains.blogspot.com/2016/04/just-like-movies.html
Thursday, April 14, 2016. Just Like The Movies. Yeah, It was but a moment. Yeah, Wonder where it all went". Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Just Like In The Movies. When I was four or five years old, at a friend's birthday party, I saw my first movie. It was magnificent! I sometimes wonder what Dogen, the thirteenth century Japanese monk credited as the person behind our specific Zen sect would think about the movies. Having read a lot of his work lately, I imagine it might go something like this:. 1 Noth...
