Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog. Contact Me For Teachers. Monday, September 19, 2011. If You're Going To Write YA, You've Got To Stay Current. I don't just write YA; I read it. Of course I read it; I'm a teacher, and I have to know what books to recommend to my students. Folks, if you're going to write contemporary settings in YA fiction, you absolutely have to be in contact with actual teenagers. You cannot assume that what you experienced in high school is still current - because it's not. Kids only send ...

Lisa Shafer: A Writer's Blog. Contact Me For Teachers. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Oslo: The Folk Museum. By my second day in Oslo, the stenosis in my back was making it so that I had to stop and rest every 10 minutes or so, which severely limited what I was able to see and do - and it also made me scared, sad, and downright grumpy. I really wanted to see the Viking Ship Museum. I did, however, manage to walk to - and around a small part of - the Norwegian Folk Museum. Click to enlarge the photo.). I was luc...

It was a dark and stormy night. Suddenly, a goblin rang out. Borderline, by Mishell Baker. Apr 10th, 2017 at 2:53 PM. Just finished reading Borderline. This is a Nebula award finalist, and having raced through the book, can see why. Here’s the official description:. The ending felt a little bit rushed, and got a little darker than I’d expected, but it worked well both to wrap up the story and lay some groundwork for the sequel,. You can read an excerpt on Baker’s website. Mirrored from Jim C. Hines.

Publishing my First Story. The Write Moment →. July 17, 2014 · 5:04 pm. The Write Moment (part four). So like I said, I ripped open the envelope and…lived happily ever after? I lifted the paper out of the envelope with trembling hands, unfolded the letter only to see it was a rejection fired back. So I sent out my story again and again. Rejections were fired back again and again. Did that story ever get published? Tune in for part five–. Tagged as Grim Hill. Grim Hill: Carnival of Secrets. Poster for the...

October 31, 2014 · 7:16 pm. I’ve had a great writerly October at the Junior Authors Convention, the BC Teacher Library gala event, in helping out at the writers’ workshop at the Vancouver Science Fiction Convention, and catching some of the Writers’ Festival. Seriously, it’s almost like a month long Halloween party. I learned some important lessons for writing as well, which, once I’ve cobbled it all together I’ll chat about on this blog. Have a safe and fun evening! Tagged as canadian zombie fiction.

Newer posts →. September 19, 2014 · 12:12 am. It’s been a fun summer, and this is the first rainy day in a long time, so I thought I’d better catch up with this blog. So to continue and finish with the Write Moment…. Okay, forget the suspense and let’s cut to the chase. My time travel story never got published. Turns out, writing time travel stories was a lot harder than I thought. Also I published the Grim Hill series. The main thing is, though, I was happily addicted to writing. I lifted the paper out ...
