Omar-san in Japan: June 2009

San (~さん)" is a title of respect (honourific) added to a name. It can be used with both male and female names, and with either surnames or given names. It can also be attached to the name of occupations and titles. As it is not the most formal title, only in very formal situations could it be inappropriate. Sunday, June 21, 2009. HOME: Time to do something. Hiya A colleague recommended this movie to me recently and after watching it I thought to myself "We're all f$#@ed unless we do something.". And invi...

https://japanexplained.wordpress.com/japanese-etiquette-and-manners-explained
Japanese etiquette and manners explained. Updated 28 December 2014. See also my new Japanese table manners explained page. Why are the Japanese so rude with their families? In many British and American families there is an emphasis on kids say Can/ Could? Why do the Japanese not give reasons when they apologise, refuse invitations and deal with complaints? Why aren’t Japanese more polite with staff? Politeness can be roughly divided into two that based on differences in position like how you should addre...

Japanese body language and gestures explained | Japan Explained FASAQ
https://japanexplained.wordpress.com/japanese-body-language-and-gestures-explained
Japanese body language and gestures explained. Updated and expanded 1 January 2015. Why do the Japanese point at their noses to show I/ me? Although I didn’t notice it when I lived there, a book on Thailand that I read recently says it happens there too. If so, I wonder if it could be the Buddhist idea that your soul lives in your head, also responsible for the taboo against touching Thai people on the head. Why is thumbs down more negative in Japan than in other places? You don’t see this a lot in publi...
