Getting Ready to Go. The Route and our Itinerary. Thursday, 30 June 2016. Welcome All, and at last a reliable internet connection. We can now show you what really did occur on THAT epic journey! It was in the clouds as it was high up the mountain and drizzled on the day we left. For example when we were at the Monastery we had an evening meal which was fantastic. A corn with cheese starter followed by Trout and vegetables then a desert. Others had steaks. All washed down with beer! Starting the descent d...

Hours of our 9.5 hour day where we started in Pontarlier. France, up the Jura Alps to S. Roix and very cold. We saw what we thought was a bus shelter which. Turned out to be a bin locker . It was. So cold and wet that we sheltered there. Brakes to avoid going too fast (35 is plenty on these wet roads -. Slowing down for hairpins of course). Day 9,10,...

It has been a wet day and the troupe has had it easy going down hill approx 888 metres and then up a slight incline of about 1,000 metres! They were held up a little by Mr Poser 2016 Mike Claridge. Fr Michael wishes everyone to know that he has a fine physic and not just "an arse to die for"! Tomorrow - Italy - after cycling over a small 'hill' called the San Bernadino Pass (2,066 metres)! St Joseph's Via Francigena 2016: Day 9,10,11 and 12 (update from Mike Burton)
https://stjosephsgxviafrancigena2016.blogspot.com/2016/06/day-91011-and-12.html
Getting Ready to Go. The Route and our Itinerary. Friday, 17 June 2016. Day 9,10,11 and 12 (update from Mike Burton). We did a recce beforehand and found that this Swiss equivalent of our A roads has a very good surface and a dedicated cycle lane for most of the way. Not needing the van was great for Malcolm and Denese as it saved them time, it also saved us squeezing bikes, luggage and riders all into the van which is a very tight. Orsiers in Switzerland to Aosta in Italy. Via the Grand St Bernard Pass.

Getting Ready to Go. The Route and our Itinerary. Sunday, 3 July 2016. Updates from Mike Burton. Saturday, 17 -. The next few days took us into rice fields which were low lying and level flooded areas, meaning that we could risk the gravel paths that meandered through them. These paths had some disadvantages though, some consisting of a very narrow mud wall that were just about passable by walking but not bikes. The bikes have been developing some strange noises, '. Italian pedal creak '. Today’s r...

Getting Ready to Go. The Route and our Itinerary. Thursday, 26 May 2016. As some of you are aware, I have previously completed the Camino de Santiago (The Way of St James) and it gave me both great spiritual and personal satisfaction from undertaking the pilgrimage. I also made a made a number of friends from the fellow pilgrims I met on the way. The biggest questions were however: Could we make time available for the necessary training and then for the pilgrimage itself? Would we be fit enough? June Mic...

Getting Ready to Go. The Route and our Itinerary. Tuesday, 7 June 2016. Day 2 and 3. After a very long day on Sunday, we had an easier one planned for Monday - about 50 miles. The route took us near Thiepval, and as it was D Day we visited the Commonwealth war graves. You can see the memorial in the background, which contains the names of 72,000 fallen who had no marked graves. St Joseph's Church, Gerrards Cross, UK. Donate to The London and Slough Run.
