Thermal Conductivity / Melts. Thermal Conductiivity - Melts. Transient hot-wire technique has been applied very successfully to the measurement of the thermal conductivity of melts. The sensor is composed of two platinum wires, coverred by a thick layer of alumina on both sides (0.3 mm thick). The sensor is lowered in the melt. Solving the full theoretical equations for this exact geometry enables the absolute determination of the thermal conductivity with a very low uncertainty. Systems sudied so far.
