From Notodden we went to the Heddal Bygdetum, a much smaller version of the Folk Museum we saw in Oslo, but with a wonderful tour guide that showed us the place all by ourselves. Highlights included the amazing rose painting on the walls by famous Olav Hansson, looms and weavings, and pancakes with jam for a snack (which served as lunch for us.). Beth called to check on our next destination and found that the person was confused and thought we were coming in July!

Saturday, June 7, 2008. After spending a short time exploring the area, we headed back to the bus and took a detour up a steep, narrow, winding road beside one of the stunning waterfalls. You could see the whole valley at each switchback, which was simply beautiful. We drove along the Hardangerfjorden and a piece of the Bjornafjorden, both picturesque. Monday, June 9, 2008. Hammerfest and the midnight sun. We arrived in Hammerfest to find our hotel, the Rica Hotel Hammerfest, is right next to the bus station and right on the water. Our room has a lovely view of the town. It’s also two rooms – a sitting room with a desk, sofa, and chair, a kettle for hot water, and a double bed! Sunday, June 1, 2008. Dancing and campground gig. Friday, May 30. We arrived at the campground, which is so quaint as to be hard to be believed. We have a river running by less than 10 feet from our cabin, and the sound is so soothing. We had dinner consisting of a Sorrell Grass soup, lamb sausage with veggies, and ice cream for dessert. I’ve got to say that I love how much ice cream the Norwegians eat! Sorry I missed out on the Pooh cones - Carol and I like to do those, too! June 13, 2008 at 11:20 AM.

Saturday, June 7, 2008. We had a quick breatkfast and the group of hikers (about 2/3rds of the group) headed out in two cars to meet the ferry. After the pleasant ferry ride with wonderful views we made a stop at Solbakk, Strand, which has very old Viking paintings. We stopped for a packed lunch of sandwiches part way down, and then stopped again at a beautiful mountain lake to relax a bit. We sat with our feet in the water while Aseema braved the cold to swim. This was such a wonderful hike.
