Coast to Coast Revisited: Random Thoughts
http://watsonswalks.blogspot.com/2009/01/random-thoughts_03.html
Coast to Coast Revisited. This blog is a record of my 2008 attempt at, and preparations for, Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk. Saturday, 3 January 2009. There are many extended walks in the UK, some just as scenic and varied as the Coast to Coast Walk. None, however, have its sociability: the camaraderie between hikers, from diverse ages, backgrounds and nationalities, is beguiling and addictive. The mix is magical. My third crossing was just as enjoyable as the previous two. . The stages were about right.

Photography by Phil Mann. The best quality printing out there as far as I am concerned - and lovely people too. Quality picture framing in Cheshire - where I get all my framing done! One of two British photographers who have been hugely influential in my development. A photographic guru who has both encouraged and influenced me. Not nearly as accidental as he would have you believe.

A Pair of Pathetic Peripatetics: Queer Folk, the British
http://hobbitsawalking.blogspot.com/2006/09/queer-folk-british.html
A Pair of Pathetic Peripatetics. Monday, September 04, 2006. Queer Folk, the British. Fell running is basically running up and down peaks. People compete in fell runs in the Lake District - in fact, they compete to see how many peaks one can run in 24 hours. The current record is 77 peaks in a 24 hour period. Sick, sick, sick. If you think you would like to compete in this demented sport, check out the Fell Runners Association. Then there was this on the side of a road leading to a bridge:. The sign read...

A Pair of Pathetic Peripatetics: A Hobbit's Holiday
http://hobbitsawalking.blogspot.com/2006/07/hobbits-holiday.html
A Pair of Pathetic Peripatetics. Friday, July 28, 2006. On August 2nd, we will be embarking on the Coast to Coast walk across England - otherwise known as "The Wainwright" (after the man who devised the trail). Starting from the Irish Sea at St. Bees we will trudge along 192 miles to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea, just south of Whitby. And so we begin with this invocation before we head off:. To the bottle I go. To heal my heart and drown my woe. Rain may fall and wind may blow,.

A Pair of Pathetic Peripatetics: Food, Glorious Food
http://hobbitsawalking.blogspot.com/2006/09/food-glorious-food.html
A Pair of Pathetic Peripatetics. Monday, September 04, 2006. Food, Glorious Food. One doesn't usually think of England as brimming over with brilliant food - but it is! At least it is in the pubs along the C2C. We often found what we considered gourmet offerings at pubs - Barnsley Lamb and Wild Game Terrine come to mind. Our absolute favorite places were:. 1) Traveler's Rest Pub in Grasmere. 2) The Rowan Tree in Grasmere. 3) The Shap Chippy - seriously! 4) The YHA Keld - seriously! Best scone I've ever e...
