Riley's Garden: May Update No. 2
http://blacklandprairiegarden.blogspot.com/2010/05/may-update-no-2.html
Watch as I bend nature to my will. Sunday, May 23, 2010. May Update No. 2. Last week we did some major work in the yard which included planting the sastuma. And olive trees in the front yard. We're hoping the satsuma grows enough to take the sun off the front of the house, especially in the morning. I also built two new 2x2 boxes and am starting pumpkins and lima beans:. On to the vegetables. The Porter's Dark Cherry is growing really well also and has set about 15 fruits:. May Update No. 2. My wife and ...

Riley's Garden: Early Starters
http://blacklandprairiegarden.blogspot.com/2010/01/early-starters.html
Watch as I bend nature to my will. Thursday, January 21, 2010. I bought a simple Rubbermaid 24 x 12 shallow container to hold the trays. I planted the seeds in peat strips which will decompose when planted (50 individual pots in 10-pot trays). Each 5 pot strip held one type of plant, in Ladybug Seed Starter mix. Which you can see labeled on the side of the container:. This is about 2 weeks after planting. All the tomatoes have sprouted, just now the peppers, especially the Habanero, are coming up.

Riley's Garden: January 2011
http://blacklandprairiegarden.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Watch as I bend nature to my will. Monday, January 3, 2011. I guess going on five months its about time for another entry, so here goes. As I indicated in a prior post. I planned to put in some berry bushes in the front bed- last week I did that, planting the two original blueberry bushes. In the bed, along with four smaller bushes of the same type (rabbiteye climax) that I bought from a guy at the farmer's market. I am going to try to do a new post in a few days on some vegetables and raised beds.

Riley's Garden: Planning the Squares
http://blacklandprairiegarden.blogspot.com/2010/01/planning-squares.html
Watch as I bend nature to my will. Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Before things actually go into the ground I wanted to spend a little time planning out which veggies go in which squares. There is the issue of bigger veggies (corn) shading smaller veggies, but I also don't want everything to come up at once, i.e. I don't need 40 ears of corn on June 20th. I want to stagger my plantings so I can have certain types of veggies ripening throughout the year. Stevens kick-ass MS Paint skills. Fruit Part 2: Bushes.

Riley's Garden: Placing the Boxes
http://blacklandprairiegarden.blogspot.com/2010/01/placing-boxes.html
Watch as I bend nature to my will. Saturday, January 16, 2010. And, the backyard:. One problem, which I freely admit may bite me in the ass later, is that because its winter all the trees are bare. I haven't been here in the summer (we bought the house in November), so I really don't know the shade/sun balance when the leaves are on all the trees. I seem to have a corridor for the sun which shouldn't be impacted too much by leaves, but who knows. Well there you are! Over the rest of the box.

Riley's Garden: trimming trees and eating peas
http://blacklandprairiegarden.blogspot.com/2010/04/i-have-quite-few-other-things-i-should.html
Watch as I bend nature to my will. Saturday, April 17, 2010. Trimming trees and eating peas. Since we bought the place. Secondly, there was a big, totally dead tree between our house and our neighbor's and, if this one came down, it would hit one of our houses. You can see the stump on the left side of the picture. This also gives me a ton more light on my garden during the morning hours:. You can also see in the bottom left hand corner some new plants, where there used to be. Where the buttercrunch was)...
