RSS feed for this section. This is my mum’s recipe. They’re not the same when I make them, but I suppose that’s only to be expected. She’s much neater with the almonds. Makes 4 x 6in. (2lb in each) or 2 x 8in. 1 lb caster sugar. 1lb 6ozs plain flour. 2 tsp mixed spice. Grated rind of both 1 lemon and 1 orange. 3lb 8ozs mixed fruit. 3-4 tbsp brandy or simiar. Blanched whole almonds for decoration. Cream fat and sugar, then add eggs and flour/salt/spice (sieved together) alternatively (so no curdling).

A Scot in London. This blog is best viewed with a glass in the hand and a lie on the lips. Friday, 20 February 2009. I wonder if Friday afternoon for every office worker in the world is full of that utter inertia when your mind is already having the weekend but you body is still stuck to your PC and your fingers still look like they have to be tapping. So, my solution to my Friday inertia? If I’m slow it’ll keep me going until 6! A Scot in London. Thursday, 19 February 2009. The audience seemed to consis...

Fat Foodie's Blog. Fat means flavour – does flavour have to mean fat? Newer posts →. Week Forty Two – Fussy (again). February 7, 2011. I know I have written about fussy eaters previously. Talking of fussy eaters brings me to Debbie. One day last week I made Ossobuco. Pasta made like risotto (portions are for a side dish). This is not t...

Fat Foodie's Blog. Fat means flavour – does flavour have to mean fat? Week Forty Two – Fussy (again). Week Forty Four – Damn You, Twitter →. Week Forty Three – Disasters Of My Own Making. February 15, 2011. On Saturday we invited two friends of whom we don’t see enough to dinner. We planned the menu with a Spanish theme because I am very boring and if left to my own devices will always veer towards Spanish cuisine. We decided on some appetisers of Manchego from Flavours Of Spain. The starter was to be Gr...
