Photography in Quietlight: July 2009

http://www.quietlight.co.uk/2009_07_01_archive.html

Sharing experiences from my photographic journey. Monday, 20 July 2009. Welcome to my Blog - Introduction. Hello, thank you for reading my blog. A new venture for me as an alternative to adding a section to my website for more informal communication and posting new work. At the end of the day it is the picture and experience that I seek from my photography, the equipment being a means to an end and as such do also use an extensive Nikon FX digital system where time or logistics prevent the use of 5x4.

Photography in Quietlight: Frostbite in Glen Coe - March 2010

http://www.quietlight.co.uk/2010/03/frostbite-in-glen-coe-march-2010.html

Sharing experiences from my photographic journey. Saturday, 6 March 2010. Frostbite in Glen Coe - March 2010. Abiding memories of the trip will be the extreme cold and the fact that there was no wind, barely a puff for the duration. 1200miles for 3 dawns and sunsets was worth it, I have never experienced ice and snow like we encountered. A truly memorable experience. 1) Loch Ba at dawn on the final day. 2) Glen Etive falls. This shot was taken from this point where Tim was set-up with the LF gear. Lots o...

Photography in Quietlight: January 2010

http://www.quietlight.co.uk/2010_01_01_archive.html

Sharing experiences from my photographic journey. Wednesday, 13 January 2010. Photographs in the snow - January 2010. 1) Hook Park - Warsash. A favourite tree in a difficult location due to the abundance of electricity pylons in our area. Over several days I was able to capture this tree in the dawn light of which this image taken with the D700 and 24mm PCE lens is my favourite. 2) The Hole of Horcum. 3) Raindale - Robin Hoods Bay. 4) Old Railway Line, Fylingthorpe. A 5x4 image taken in dead flat light a...

Photography in Quietlight: Comparison of Arca vs Ebony

http://www.quietlight.co.uk/2009/10/comparison-of-arca-vs-ebony.html

Sharing experiences from my photographic journey. Saturday, 24 October 2009. Comparison of Arca vs Ebony. The 2 alternatives I was most familiar with are the Arca F Line and the Linhof TK45. I photograph regularly with Jon Brock who has a TK45 and although he produces excellent results the camera doesnt 'talk' to me whereas the Arca has always held a very strong almost hypnotic appeal. 1) The arca kit weighs approx 1.3kg more than the Ebony. In absolute terms this is the difference between 3....3) Bellow...

Matthias Down Under
