Quilting in the Sunshine. June 16, 2015. I live on Vancouver Island which may very well be the most wonderful place on the earth. We have mild temperatures and countless ways to enjoy ourselves outside. Beaches, forests, parks … The list goes on and on. Last summer I decided that I needed a hand sewing project “to go” so I could sew a few stitches whiles the kids played in the sand or ran in the parks. 9 patch in May. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. 1 down 110 to go. March 28, 2015. March 28, 2015. It’s a lot of blocks and will be a lot of work but I will admit that I am looking forward to lots of small pieces especially as it is just a few at a time. I learned something important last night. I was trying to be so very careful cutting a square from a template and then I remembered that I can measure the template and cut the square with my ruler. Simple, silly and true. The Farmer’s Wife. Adventures as told by two old friends who quilt…. Tag Archives: Bright Lights Big City. This Just Finished and Coming Off the Wall! August 11, 2015. This was a start a few weeks ago: On the Wall at Pam’s House. There are 16 sections like the one above that I made to make this into a nice sized throw. The outside corners all have a brown base. The inside center corners all have the deep purple base. The centers of all the rings have the same polka dot fabric. Both could be a lot of fun! Pam on Summer Insp...

Adventures as told by two old friends who quilt…. August 3, 2015. This weekend we found ourselves having to hit the road to be with family. Our first night was spent in Kalona, Iowa which is the quilt capitol of Iowa. We had a short window of time before we needed to hit the road and thought it would be nice to sightsee a bit. Kalona’s downtown has a number of quaint shops. Quilt squares are certainly a focus! Fabric was to be found at a couple of shops…and some was! Can’t wait to explore again! 365 Days...

Adventures as told by two old friends who quilt…. August 6, 2015. My sister recently uncovered in a closet a couple of long forgotten quilts that Grandma made. One she remembers as a wedding gift, and the other she thinks Mom brought out to her. As she was married in the 60’s, the fabrics are from a scrap collection prior to that. The edges were all hand sewn around with a blanket stitch. So great to be surrounded by great memories of a talented lady! Posted from WordPress for Android. Fill in your detai...

Working on Bright Lights Big City from Victoria Findlay Wolfes Book: Double Wedding Ring Quilts – Traditions Made Modern. Using a wide variety of large prints, and a few textured solids. Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Where has the time gone? Well I have been so busy that I have no idea where the time has gone. I made this reversible bag. Perfect for summer! And this apron from my fav fabric range. And also this one. And this gorgeous tote. And some of these Christmas Gift Bags. And some of these drawstring bags to stick a little gift in. And finally this bag. Phew I still have so much to complete. Never enough time for me to sew. I think I'd rather sew than sleep. Friday, November 4, 2011.

Quilt America

The Origin And Development Of Crazy Quilting In America. Crazy quilting in America is believed to have been inspired by the Japanese Exhibit that was part of the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition that took place in 1876. The asymmetrical nature of the art on display was translated into an expression in fabric. This form of needlework remained popular for several decades, until about 1910. In the early years, this type of fabric art was generally practiced by the higher classes of Victorian ladies. E...

It's What I Do. Tuesday, 30 June 2015. This is the finished quilt ready for its hanging sleeve. It all began with humble beginnings on a weekend retreat. Up until then it was just a drawing I'd done in Touch Draw on my iPad. I love that app. As you can see, it was put together bit by bit using a quilt as you go method. I also love QAYG. Often, a round was pieced first, then added, following basically a log cabin construction. I also love log cabin in all its beautiful variations. Links to this post.
