La Nouvelle Naissance: March 2009

A popular myth that may not necessarily be so false, is the idea that in general, Asians don't visibly age as quickly as Caucasians. As a 'CBC' (Canadian-Born Chinese), this is obviously something that I encounter more often than perhaps the average North American. While I obviously don't agree that Asians have this propensity for longevity, I certainly think that one's personal experiences will colour the way they interpret new experiences. And when one looks at the range of facial features in Cauca...

La Nouvelle Naissance: August 2008

William Blake said that Experience and Innocence are the two contrary states of the soul. Ah yes, to see my education actually working. Anyway. Being the spiritually inclined person that I am, I tend to have friends and acquaintences who are also spiritual or religious. And sometimes, I ask questions about "the" religious experience. Who decides what's authentic and what's false testimony? All the Abrahamic religions claim divine revelation, but they can't all be right, right? But there is a difference b...

La Nouvelle Naissance: December 2008
http://shadow-paladin.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
With less than an hour to go 'til the end of 2008, how am I spending my time? Am I at the main party hosted by my 2nd-degree friend, and attended by the majority of my primary friends? Am I with another set of not-so-close-but-generally-friendly friends to herald the new year? Instead, I'm holed up in my room, with a "steady" supply of Fucithalmic viscous eye drops ($22.80 for 10 mg! I suppose. I could even make a post for it in my other blog. But anywhoo. With the tempestuous hibernal Boreas blowing in ...

La Nouvelle Naissance: September 2008
http://shadow-paladin.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Despite having never taken a Latin course, it would seem that what I thought were common phrases aren't as easily recognised by the average university English student. Is no longer rasa. But apparently, the male roommate didn't make any comment, and the two female housemates thought it was a food term. It was there for a month, and nobody said anything. :( So what I hoped would be a nerdtastic joke turned into a genuine mystery for the audience. Google Fails in Dream. In reference to ancient times: The e...

La Nouvelle Naissance: April 2008

So I'm mid-way through exams right now, having finished 2.5 of my 6 finals. (The 0.5 denotes the take-home exam I have until 3pm today to finish.) Yesterday was my Chaucer final, which was difficult! But I wasn't alone in my suffering; the two friends I made there apparently also struggled. Saying that it was another such example from Qing Chinese Literature. Prof writes: "Thanks for the ref.". La Nouvelle Naissance: Reading and Readership
http://shadow-paladin.blogspot.com/2009/01/reading-and-readership.html
Aside from the people who know me personally and already have some sort of personal interest in my daily happenings and general well-being, why would a general stranger bother reading the conceited ramblings of an undergraduate? D Sometime later, I'll make a post or two about my christmas holiday. =). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Based in the " true. View my complete profile.

La Nouvelle Naissance: Hypocrisy
http://shadow-paladin.blogspot.com/2009/04/hypocrisy.html
The latter example is pretty dark, but the fact remains that a lot of people are willing to publicly declare and defend their intellectual stances on sensitive topics like these (or perhaps less sensitive ones like refusing to conform to social norms in order to remain 'genuine'). What often happens, however, is a hypocritical cowardly turn when the stake is actually challenged. I don't care if children are around! As soon as security appeared, however, the man fled. What happened to not caring?

La Nouvelle Naissance: November 2008

I'm on schedule, as far as revisions go, and in less than a year I'll be graduated with an honours undergraduate university degree. On the one hand, it's a cause for celebration, but on the other hand, I don't know what I'd like to do. Meanwhile, there's also the possibility of grad school, and of course, there's also working for the government. Lots to worry about. But a step at a time, right? Which for the next few weeks means getting several essays drafted, polished and printed. Until December!

La Nouvelle Naissance: Ich lebe noch

Still alive. Scrambling to adjust to my [hopefully] last term of an undergraduate degree. Look forward soon to some possibly political and sociologically informed posts. :P.
