Laurelhurst Craftsman Bungalow: More Basement Bath
http://www.laurelhurstcraftsman.com/2015/08/more-basement-bath.html
Saturday, August 8, 2015. We got a pretty. In the mail today; a chrome waste bin. It's quite nice looking with a slight hammered look. I bought this off of Amazon. And I'm happy that it is real metal. Often when you buy stuff that looks like metal in a picture, it's actually plastic when you get it. I'm probably going to buy another one for the master bath. So, instead, I decided to try just spray painting it. It was about $10 for the two cans of paint. I followed the advice of this blog. Looks like it&#...

Monday, February 23, 2015. Welcome to my somewhat neglected blog. In it, I document our research and restoration of our 1912 Arts and Crafts house in Laurelhurst, Portland, Oregon. I am deeply honored that American Bungalow. Has chosen to include our house in their well-respected magazine and I welcome all you folks who got this blog address from that article. If you are visiting to check out my original source research that I've posted, the best way to see is it to click on the " Inspiration. Before and...

Laurelhurst Craftsman Bungalow: Basement Bathroom
http://www.laurelhurstcraftsman.com/2011/09/basement-bathroom.html
Friday, September 16, 2011. Our basement bathroom remodel did not go smoothly. Nothing in the room went as planned. Before the remodel, it was this tiny nook in the back corner of the basement. It was dark and a little gross. Here are the before and planned after floor plans. Once the chimney was removed, the bathroom could expand into the original square space and we would punch out the shower into the basement proper. That was the plan anyway. So, we simply asked CDR to skip installing the toilet and s...

Laurelhurst Craftsman Bungalow: May 2015
http://www.laurelhurstcraftsman.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 31, 2015. The wear and tear on my hands made it hard to do a lot of work today, but thankfully Jeff stepped up and helped out. Generally, Jeff and I divide up paint stripping. He strips paint in the high areas and I do the low areas. I typically do most of the chemical stripping. Jeff sands the weird profiles (usually the picture rail and crowns) and then I sand the flat trim. The paint started peeling off the wall like wallpaper; it was hard to resist giving it a good tug. :D. There is a lit...

Laurelhurst Craftsman Bungalow: Sifting Tile Again
http://www.laurelhurstcraftsman.com/2015/08/sifting-tile-again.html
Sunday, August 9, 2015. I had plans to work on other projects today, but I got distracted looking through the many boxes of tile again. I've been working on getting quotes for the tile install in our master bathroom and I'm trying to finalize details of the plan. And once I found this cool tile set, I've been trying to figure out a way to use it. I found this nice set of tiles, but tragically (again) there is not enough tiles. It would also look good. Laurelhurst Craftsman Bungalow: Sifted Tile
http://www.laurelhurstcraftsman.com/2015/08/sifted-tile.html
Sunday, August 2, 2015. I did find this one lovely set of tiles that I don't even recall from the auction listings. I'm not sure they laid it out for the photos. We got a whole box of them, so I guess a girl can hope there's enough for the bathroom. Wouldn't that be lovely? I haven't counted tiles in the plan yet, but I suspect there won't be enough. (Nope, not enough.). I don't think we got enough green tiles to do our original tile plan. And it got me started thinking in a crafty way. Hmm, stencil?

Laurelhurst Craftsman Bungalow: Marmoleum Floor
http://www.laurelhurstcraftsman.com/2015/08/marmoleum-floor.html
Tuesday, August 4, 2015. The basement bath has a marmoleum floor! We picked up this marmoleum remnant in Sept 2011. And we are just now getting around to installing it (ouch). That's pretty sad. The gallon of adhesive cost more than the remnant itself. Jeff had his friend Eric come and help him again today with this project. Before: Not an attractive cement floor. They made a pattern out of paper then traced it onto the back of the marmoleum. Turns out leather shears work great for cutting marmoleum.
