With plans to visit the Pyrate Fest in Put-in-Bay ( blog post here. Julia and I decided to head out for a full-day mini- babymoon. Grabbing a Miller's Ferry. In Catawba (Port Clinton). And cruising across Lake Erie. As we enjoyed the cool air off the water and the warm sun from above. We were near South Bass Island within a half hour.

Although the next morning started slowly, my realization of the time and the train schedule forced us to run (don't walk) out the door and find a taxi down the street. Within minutes, we made it to the train station, where we bought kilometer tickets from the magazine kiosk (40 km to Venice) and ran to the track. To find the train was 10 minutes late and we had all the time in the world.

For our first full day in Lucca, we went into town and Max got to taste his first meringue. We were told to have lunch at Trattoria da Leo and I got this delicious boiled tongue and beef with green (parsley, caper, garlic) sauce. Mom and Susan got vitello tonnato. And met up again with Rosalba and Nino for a dinner out at Sapori d'Italia in Gallarate. Nino got an incredible dish that came in a cooked pizza crust. We went back to Lucca with Julia going off with her mom and my mom going with Max and me. Basically, all the ladies were shopping. My mom wanted me to take her to places she hadn't seen and I believe Julia was going for some perfume and other things. There are fewer and fewer pictures as the days progressed in Lucca. Food was fine, waiter was a jerk. It was freaky at times.
