Spitfire Rehab: Getting a 1974 Spitfire Back on the Road: Parts!
http://spitfirerehab.blogspot.com/2014/01/parts.html
Spitfire Rehab: Getting a 1974 Spitfire Back on the Road. Thursday, January 9, 2014. My order from Victoria British arrived today, containing a front brake parts kit (rotors, pads, hoses, caliper seal set, mounting hardware.) and a pair of motor mounts. I now have everything needed to complete the brakes, right down to the DOT5 fluid. We'll get the caliper rebuilds done, and then it's time to install the entire brake system! Kind of excited to check that off the list. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Spitfire Rehab: Getting a 1974 Spitfire Back on the Road. Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Not much happening lately. We've had a succession of snowstorms that have cut into the available time for the Spit, and what time remains has been further eroded by work responsibilities. Spitfire Rehab: Getting a 1974 Spitfire Back on the Road: What Have We Here? (Cont'd.)
http://spitfirerehab.blogspot.com/2013/12/what-have-we-here-cont.html
Spitfire Rehab: Getting a 1974 Spitfire Back on the Road. Friday, December 13, 2013. What Have We Here? Well, not so fast. A lot of very experienced Spitfire owners on the forums I now frequent talk of their "1973 Spitfire 1500," for example. How could they have a 1973 1500 when it wasn't introduced until 1975? Something didn't add up. Tonight, I found some clues while looking for carburetor resources. Spitfire and GT6 Magazine. So what *do* I have? Commission Numbers" were the equivalent of VIN's (Vehic...

Spitfire Rehab: Getting a 1974 Spitfire Back on the Road. Friday, December 27, 2013. The title of today's post - "Safety Fast! To that end, today's work session focused on a couple of safety-critical systems: brakes and steering. This old tie rod end was an accident waiting to happen. Personally, I hope never to find out what it's like to be in a car when that's happening. So when I inspected the tie rod ends and found one boot entirely missing, with damage visible to the ball and socket beneath, I f...

Leaving the bulkhead in primer. When am I ever going to have both master cylinders off again? This is a great opportunity to do this right, and the delay is negligible since it's not likely to be Triumph weather until March at the absolute earliest. So where does one find #82 Carmine Red paint? They recommended a p...

Spitfire Rehab: Getting a 1974 Spitfire Back on the Road: November 2013
http://spitfirerehab.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Spitfire Rehab: Getting a 1974 Spitfire Back on the Road. Saturday, November 30, 2013. The bulkhead on the driver's side was pretty rusty when I got the car. It's a common problem - spilled fluid from the clutch and brake master cylinders attacks the paint, leaving the metal unprotected, and chemistry has its way with the steel, resulting in something like this:. I was pleased to see that the rust hadn't gotten deep into the bulkhead:. Friday, November 22, 2013. Tearing Into the Lucas 17ACR Alternator.

Spitfire Rehab: Getting a 1974 Spitfire Back on the Road: Rear Window
http://spitfirerehab.blogspot.com/2013/12/rear-window.html
Spitfire Rehab: Getting a 1974 Spitfire Back on the Road. Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Last week, the long-anticipated used rear window for my hard top showed up in the mail. It survived the trip, and was in good shape, though a little dirty. I cleaned it up and made ready to install it. I had already received the rubber gasket that surrounds the window, so nothing was holding me back from putting the window in. To Paint or Not To Paint? Installation: The String Method. I've never done anything like thi...
