Clever Title Here: before Tiny Houses were cool...
http://clevertitlehere.blogspot.com/2015/05/before-tiny-houses-were-cool.html
Still learning about being a disciple. Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Before Tiny Houses were cool. Almost every week it seems there is another article or video about Tiny Houses. Google brings up 22.4 million. Hits just from that phrase. People are making living spaces in freight containers. And on trailers, and living in their ingeniously designed 250 square foot space in the woods somewhere. Or in an alley. Or wherever they want, because their house is on a trailer. Do they bring happiness to our lives?

Clever Title Here: Play
http://clevertitlehere.blogspot.com/2010/10/play.html
Still learning about being a disciple. Saturday, October 02, 2010. Then this week I also WENT to a play.I saw Candide (oh, Leonard Bernstein, how I love your music) at the Goodman Theater with my friend Jenny. It was a very good show, capturing the spirit of Voltaire's novel and inviting the audience into the creative process of putting on the production. I found it funny and touching, inviting and depressing, strange and wonderful and beautiful and horrifying all at once. Labels: one word project. Refra...

Clever Title Here: puppy
http://clevertitlehere.blogspot.com/2010/07/puppy.html
Still learning about being a disciple. Monday, July 05, 2010. Before I tell you a story, you should know that I tend to use the word "puppy" to talk to or about any dog, no matter the dog's age or size. I think there's probably a bit of puppy in every grown dog, just like there's a child inside every grown up person- the question is whether we let it out. So today, the 5th of July, was the Crystal Lake 4th of July Parade. I don't understand either, so don't ask. I will say that I think I had more fun at ...

Clever Title Here: Growing Into It--a sermon on Romans 6

Still learning about being a disciple. Sunday, May 17, 2015. Growing Into It- a sermon on Romans 6. 17 May 2015, Easter 7, NL1-37. What then are we to say? Should we continue in sin in order that grace may abound? How can we who died to sin go on living in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? NRSV, with translation corrections by JRD Kirk, Fuller Seminary professor). Can you imagine growing up with all those titles and names? A perfect ...

Still learning about being a disciple. Thursday, December 02, 2010. It's the first day, and I always forget. Short as the non-cold season may be here,. It's long enough to forget. How it doesn't take much-. A dusting, really, along with a cold night/day. The snow turns to ice,. And what looks sparkly and pretty. And maybe even crunchy, if you get lucky,. One wrong step,. One extra swing of an arm,. One slightly-off-balance-from-carrying-a-bag-of-groceries move,. And suddenly I'm down. And a car is coming.

Clever Title Here: Lest you think I hate baseball, apple pie, and mom....

Still learning about being a disciple. Saturday, May 09, 2015. Lest you think I hate baseball, apple pie, and mom. I don't hate Mother's Day. I think the celebration of mom is good and important. So good and important it shouldn't really be confined to a day defined by florists and greeting card companies, but whatever. My mother. Our mother. Each family that wishes to do so appreciating its mother(s), in a personalized and specific way. This is also the reason Mother's Day is hard for so many people....

Clever Title Here: Scoop
http://clevertitlehere.blogspot.com/2010/06/scoop.html
Still learning about being a disciple. Wednesday, June 09, 2010. I must confess that my very first thoughts on hearing or seeing the word "scoop" all involve ice cream. I love ice cream in ways that can't really be described in words. If I thought I could work out every other available minute, I would eat ice cream for lunch and/or dinner probably every day. My favorites, of course, depend on the season. Early summer calls for root beer floats, filled with much more than just one scoop of ice cream.
