REPTILES and AMPHIBIANS OF ANZA-BORREGO. More than 70 species of snakes, lizards, and amphibians are found in Anza-Borrego. The Anza-Borrego region ranges from the hot and dry deserts of the Salton Sea, barely above sea level in the east, all the way up to 6,000 feet, in the moist and cold mountain tops that rise in the west. Within this range of elevations there are a tremendous variety of habitats, and tremendous variety in the plants and animals that inhabit them.
