Abel Tasman (uit Wikipedia. Abel Janszoon Tasman (Lutjegast, 1603 Batavia, 10 oktober 1659) was een Nederlands ontdekkingsreiziger in dienst van de Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie (VOC). Hij is het bekendst door zijn reizen tussen 1642 en 1644, opgezet door Antonio van Diemen. Tijdens deze reis ontdekte hij Tasmanië, Nieuw-Zeeland en Tongatapu. Alleen op het laatste eiland werd de bemanning vriendelijk onthaald.

Als scouting je leuk lijkt hoef je niet meteen te beslissen. Bij elke speltak kan je gewoon langs komen en gedurende vier zaterdagen meedoen voordat je beslist of je lid wilt worden. De geboren Rotterdammer Abel Tasma 1 april 1951 volgde lessen bij verschillende kunstenaars, waaronder Biemans, Leo de Jong,Marian Klapwijk en Siapatie op Bali ( Indonesië ). Hij is als schilder autodidact, een bewuste keuze om zijn gevoel en inspiratie niet te laten beïnvloeden. Abel Tasma laat zich wel inspireren door stromingen rondom de Cobra-groep. Hij is in zijn werk altijd op ontdekkingsreis, zoals zijn voorvader Abel Tasman. Ontdekker van o.a. Tasmanië en Nieuw Zeeland.

Sinds 1978 is waterscouting Abel Tasman gehuisvest aan de Rhedense Veerweg en heeft daar per 1 maart 2010 de beschikking over een prachtige accommodatie en dito locatie, gelegen aan het water-, recreatie- en natuurgebied ' de Rhederlaag' .
