A final post. | this is a blog. it is for class.
https://ablogforclass.wordpress.com/2009/04/03/a-final-post
This is a blog. it is for class. Citizen media and beyond! My final post has gradually been working up to a post about myself. Sort of. Specifically, social media and me. Might as well break the rules at the last moment! Although it isn’t exactly tangible. what friendship really is? Spending money for virtual things sounds silly… but isn’t spending money on most things kind of silly? Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. https://ablogforclass.wordpress.com/2009/04/03/a-thought-on-attention-spans
This is a blog. it is for class. Citizen media and beyond! A thought on attention spans. I originally thought I was somewhat immune to the smartphone craze, regarding the whole “always connected” thing. I am rarely connected when I’m out and about, and I like it that way. And then I started tweeting from bed. And all of this is because I really, really dislike waiting for sleep. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. This is a blog. it is for class. Citizen media and beyond! Journalism, Journalism, where art thou standards? A blogger, whose name I believe is Matt, posted this article today: How I Duped The Sun. For those of you that don’t know, The Sun is a paper in the UK that is tabloidesque, and their wacky stories often find their way to social news sites like Fark. The Sun picked up the story. And seems to have expanded upon the “tip” they received), and then, CNET wrote a story. CNET picking the article up show...
a question of identity and an introduction. | this is a blog. it is for class.
https://ablogforclass.wordpress.com/2009/01/26/question-of-identity
This is a blog. it is for class. Citizen media and beyond! A question of identity and an introduction. Hello, my name is Jack and I like country music, playing basketball, and deep sea diving suits. Perhaps. Perhaps not. Or, more specifically, who am I in the public sphere? What part of me does my text based self represent? Do we construct an identity that is as true to ourselves as we can be? Do we selectively choose aspects of ourselves to portray to others? Are we honest at all? Does it even matter?
Second Life does not equal social ineptitude! | this is a blog. it is for class.
https://ablogforclass.wordpress.com/2009/04/02/second-life-does-not-equal-social-ineptitude
This is a blog. it is for class. Citizen media and beyond! Second Life does not equal social ineptitude! In class, we’ve talked about things like Second Life and our identities. specifically, those people that spend plenty of time on the internet. I’d like to address the idea that I’ve seen in a few blogs on our disassociation with the real world, and the impact that social media has on it. In a more general sense, away from MMORPG’s, if you’re interested in things that are different from the...If you...

Citizen Media and New Media: How much is too much?
http://citizenmedia-kstar.blogspot.com/2009/01/how-much-is-too-much.html
Sunday, January 25, 2009. How much is too much? What happened to the simple task of making a phone call? Or even writing a letter for that matter? Instead of a quick, easy, and efficient method of communication, our society (for the most part) prefers to use about six different types of technology to keep tabs on our friends and family. Drew Barrymore addresses this well in the trailer for the upcoming movie, He’s Just Not That Into You. Clip for the full trailer, if you’re interested). Technology is now...

Social Effects of Citizen Media: April 2009
http://stephsblog-citizenmedia.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 4, 2009. Twouble with Twitter: funny video! I just stumbled across this video yesterday about Twitter, check it out it's pretty funny! If you listen to everything he's saying it's so true, and quite clever! I like when the big whale comes in after that guy upsets everyone in Twitter (if you're not familiar with Twitter, it's the whale that appears when Twitter's down or is having technical troubles). I also especially like how he says that "we now communicate in bite-sized yippity yaps!

Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Fan Films: To spoof or not to spoof? Fans now can create their own takes, alternate endings and even spoofs on the films they watch. Below is an example of a spoof done by fans on the movie Twilight. They spoofed it, which is the act of taking an original piece in this case a film, and putting their own humorous meaning into it. Enjoy: (it's at the end of this post! This topic is also discussed by Henry Jenkins on his Blog: http:/ henryjenkins.org/. From Henry Jenkins Blog:.

Social Effects of Citizen Media: January 2009
http://stephsblog-citizenmedia.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 26, 2009. In our class discussion today, following Kaley's seminar, the debate of who has the right to say what is wrong in regards to ethical and racial comments on webblogs. Racism comments are obviously hurtful and wrong, both morally and ethically, as well as homosexual comments; but who is to say what is an isn't acceptable for the web. Are indirect or subtle comments appropriate? Or what about funny jokes? Is regulating blogs impeding on the right of freedom of speech? Recapping the...

Citizen Media and New Media: What is Hacktivism?
http://citizenmedia-kstar.blogspot.com/2009/02/what-is-hacktivism.html
Friday, February 27, 2009. Since I am in my fourth year of communication studies, I have encountered the term “ hacktivism. When I was looking on the hackbloc.org. Could detract from the independence (in my opinion) of the site. Everyone is going to have their own opinions on things, which I think is good when it comes to a site like this. Having many people be able to post stories should help everyone else keep an open mind about things. They’re not the scary, misguided hackers who want to screw w...

ramblings of a little madam
Ramblings of a little madam. A blog for blog's sake. Monday, 21 December 2009. Mondays are rubbish. Well this one has been, so i shan't dwell on it. Instead I'll talk about what a lovely day I had yesterday and what I'm planning over the festive period. It even has a chocolate fingers picket fence and lattice windows made from gelatine sheets. She's quite the pro - it looks brilliant! She says her mum even manages to put a candle inside hers to make it look like it's lived in! Saturday, 21 November 2009.

A Blog for Dr. Burns
A Blog for Dr. Burns. Saturday, November 13, 2010. Just a funny little story:. About a month ago, Liza fell asleep on me on the couch, so I needed to transport her upstairs as smoothly as possible to lay her in her crib. Actually, I should back up a little. Oh, yes. Time to transport Liza upstairs. (Read in a dramatic voice: THE STAIRS OF DANGER! Where in the world has he picked up this little gem? I finally get her put down and explain to Mike that:. A) he did not, in fact, have my pants waistband.

Friday, November 22, 2013. Because i spent the first part of my pregnancy paranoid. About something going wrong, and because i spent the second part of my pregnancy paranoid that my face looked swollen, i didn't do maternity photos or really any documentation of my growing belly. except for a handful of photos that my co-worker katie forced me to pose for while we were at the office, which is why the majority of photos of me as a pregnant person are against a cubicle wall.
