Sunday, 30 March 2014. There is a large cemetery nearby and today me youngest daughter came with me and decided to have a bug safari. It was the first visit in the year that I have taken many more invertebrate than bird photos. A pine Ladybird on orange lichen, Xanthoria parietina. A group of the blind millipede Blaniulus guttulatus,. With Porcellio scaber and a while slug under a piece of wood. A carpet of Lesser Celandines. Posted by Africa Gómez. Links to this post. BugBlog: July 2014

http://abugblog.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 23 July 2014. Today it was a summery, hot day, with a light breeze, ideal for insect watching. Somehow, I managed a few decent in flight shots, which usually evade me as I am not patient enough. The first one happened when I spotted two hovering Volucella pellucens. So I tried to get some shots while it hovered and got the shot at the top of the post, and I was pretty pleased with that! Digger wasp (probably the common E. cavifrons. Inspecting a rotten log. She had to fend off a Tegenaria.

BugBlog: Buzzzzzzz!!!!!

http://abugblog.blogspot.com/2015/04/buzzzzzzz.html

Thursday, 9 April 2015. There was definitely a buzz in the garden today. The usual Anthophora plumipes. Males were now joined by the first female of the year (above), feeding on the Pulmonaria. The Pulmonaria, unfortunately, was in the shade, so I couldn't take as sharp photos as I would have liked. A male Osmia bicornis. Was patrolling the grape Hyacinths and a female Andrena fulva. Made a brief appearance. Just on cue, as the Cherry, a favourite of this bee, started to bloom yesterday. Sp on a dandelion.

BugBlog: January 2015

http://abugblog.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 28 January 2015. In the last couple of months, I've regularly come across active Girdled Snails on my way to work. Damp, but often very cold even during frosty mornings I see these small snails on they way back to their day retreats on the pavement by a front garden, presumably after having been active, feeding? During the night (above, on the 23rd of January at 8:48 am). This nonchalant cold hardiness is in stark contrast to common or garden snails ( Cornu aspersum. They can do this by produc...

BugBlog: September 2014

http://abugblog.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Friday, 19 September 2014. I met this spider while upturning a garden chair. She walked steadily on the ground, and blankly refused to settle on the white bowl. She jumped a few times like a jumping spider! I had to take the photos while she settled briefly on my plastic pot on top of the while bowl. The is a relatively large sac spider, Clubiona. Around 9 mm long, with very dark chelicerae. Females a silk cell in a folded leaf containing their egg sac. Posted by Africa Gómez. Links to this post. One of ...

Just another WordPress.com site. My 30 Days Wild: Part 3. Here is the last 10 days of my 30 Days Wild! Day 21 – Who knew that an old dry log would be so interesting! Day 22 – Today I spent time watching a Goldfinch investigating the bark of a tree! Day 23 – Popped by my local Kestrel nest … I’m not sure who was watching who today! Day 24 – I was given the choice between doing the books or counting the bugs! Day 25 – Stuck in traffic? I decided to do a long distance plant survey! Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

WILD ABOUT BUNGAY: Autumn glory

I think the flowering cherry tree by St Mary's looks lovely. I am not sure what the red creeping plant is but thought it cheered up the castle tower! The green plant was also growing in a crevice on the castle wall. The daisy-like flowers were underneath a tree along the path past St Mary's; I don't know what they are either!

Frosty plants on the verge at the bottom of Quaves Lane, Bungay. A wonderful-looking hedge, also in Quaves Lane. A frozen droplet of water. The cobwebs were wonderful. Walking down Bridge Street, to Chicken Roundabout, I was suddenly overcome by the heady scent of May (Hawthorn) blossom. Always a pleasure, it seems to bring back memories of childhood. Submitted by Adele Goodchild. Sunday, April 27th, 2014. Bill's Place,' St John's Road, Bungay. Itches and so forth. They were made u...

On a sunny day in June, I went for a ramble at Outney Common with my friend Phil and Jasmine's husband, John Lingwood. John explained that this was one of Jasmine's favourite haunts in Bungay, where she had grown up. Jasmine was an expert on wildflowers and was passionate about the countryside. And large clumps of Gorse in flower. Bungay has two ancient Commo...

Thank you for visiting. I work as a garden designer and will be sharing photos of my projects as well as fascinating and inspiring views of our beautiful world. Tuesday, January 31, 2012. This is a closeup of a stone mosaic made for my brother. The sparkly stone is mica schist collected from the edge of the Little Elk Creek in Southern Chester County PA. The black stone set on edge to define the tree silhouette is called black regency that I believe was quarried in North Carolina. Care of our land.

Nature is a Language – Can't You Read? Newer posts →. April 3, 2013. After spending all day cooped up inside working on an assignment I decided I would take a break and celebrate the start of “British birding time” by heading to my abandoned local patch for my first evening birding session of the year. My ultimate goal was to year tick Barn Owl. This beautiful bird can be seen with a bit of luck most evenings on Figham Common. I did managed four oyster catchers (rarity), around six teal (patch first!
